The Department seeks an emerging scholar with a commitment to excellence in teaching and pedagogical development.Outstanding candidates in any area of Chemistry will be considered, with particular emphasis on candidates who will complement or extend the department’s strengths. University of Waterloo: First Year and Advanced Chemistry, Definite Term

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Waterloo invites applications for a full-time definite term Lecturer position in Chemistry. The successful candidate will teach five lecture courses over three terms per year predominantly in introductory first year chemistry with some opportunities to teach upper year courses. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will have a substantial role in advising students and in further developing the Chemistry undergraduate program. While the appointment will be made initially for a three-year term, this position fills an important role in the program; it is anticipated that an appointee with outstanding performance will be considered for a permanent appointment as a Continuing Lecturer during a second three-year term.

Applicants should have outstanding training and demonstrated excellence in chemistry or a closely related discipline. A doctoral degree in chemistry or a closely related discipline is required; postdoctoral experience is desired. They should have established an outstanding teaching record or be able to provide evidence of potential for high-quality teaching at all levels within the Chemistry undergraduate curriculum. Teaching experience in a university setting will be considered an asset.

Western University: Industrial Chair in Radiation Induced Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry at The University of Western Ontario (Western) invites applications for a full-time faculty position in materials chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor (Probationary Tenure-track), Associate Professor (Probationary Tenure-track or Tenured), or Full Professor with Tenure. The successful candidate will be expected to fill an Industrial Chair in Radiation Induced Chemistry.

Applicants must have a PhD degree in Physical Chemistry or a related discipline. Research expertise in the studies of materials degradation under ionizing radiation or other harsh and dynamic conditions is strongly preferred. Research experience in chemical dynamics, interfacial reaction kinetics, radiation-induced chemistry, electrode reaction dynamics and/or corrosion science is an asset. A strong record of research appropriate for the applicant’s career stage in the form of publications in relevant peer-reviewed journals, research awards, invited talks at relevant venues and other scholarly achievements is required. Relevant industrial experience (e.g. an industrial post-doctoral fellowship) is an asset.

Demonstrated research interests that benefit the environmentally safe and sustainable use of nuclear power, such as interest in the mechanisms and kinetics of the degradation of metallic nuclear materials and/or mass transfer processes are favored. The successful candidate will be expected to interact with scientists and engineers from the Department of Chemistry, and the Faculties of Science and Engineering, and from industry and government laboratories to develop coherent research projects for solving relevant complex technical issues. Evidence for past or on-going successful collaborations and industry partnerships is an asset.

The Industrial Chair position is funded by the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO). NWMO was established in 2002 under the Nuclear Fuel Waste Act (http://www.nwmo.ca). The company’s mandate is to collaborate with Canadians to develop and implement a management approach for the long-term care of Canada’s used nuclear fuel that is socially acceptable to Canadians, including First Nation and Metis peoples, technically sound, environmentally responsible, and economically feasible. In addition to the research funded through the Chair, it is expected that the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to develop an innovative, independently-funded experimental research program with the potential to secure external funding in both the public and private sectors as evidenced either by their current success in securing research funding or their potential for future partnerships as detailed in their research plan.

The successful candidate is also expected to contribute to the teaching mission in the Department of Chemistry at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and to the research training of undergraduate and graduate students as well as postdoctoral fellows. University of Toronto: Physics and Chemistry of Quantum Materials

The Department of Physics and the Department of Chemistry in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto invite applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the area of Physics and Chemistry of Quantum Materials. This will be a joint appointment between the Department of Physics (51%) and the Department of Chemistry (49%) at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an expected start date of July 1, 2021, or shortly thereafter. 

Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Physics, Chemistry, or a related field by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching in the Physics and Chemistry of Quantum Materials. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement the existing strengths of both departments (see https://www.physics.utoronto.ca/research and https://www.chemistry.utoronto.ca/research). The Department seeks an established scholar with a commitment to excellence in teaching, research and academic leadership. Outstanding candidates in any area of chemistry will be considered.

The successful candidate will have a track record of high quality scholarly research leading to peer assessed publications, will have established an independent, innovative, scholarly, externally fundable research program, will have demonstrated strong and outstanding teaching contributions, will have  demonstrated strong administrative, leadership and management skills, and will exhibit evidence of the ability to work in a collaborative environment. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
