Memorial University: Enzyme/Receptor Biochemistry

The Department of Biochemistry invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor in the area of Enzyme and/or Receptor Biochemistry. The Department of Biochemistry offers undergraduate degree programs in both Biochemistry and Nutrition, as well as a robust graduate program. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the delivery of both the undergraduate and graduate programs. The successful applicant will also be expected to develop a rigorous, independent, externally funded research program that could incorporate a translational approach spanning basic research and applied human health and disease. While the exact area of study with respect to enzyme and receptor biochemistry is open, the applicant’s research should fit within one or more of the Department’s established research foci of nutrition and molecular biochemistry of life processes. Those using modern techniques to elucidate enzyme and/or receptor mechanisms related to one or more diseases such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, various cancers, and psychiatric illness are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant’s research program should synergistically expand these areas. It is also envisaged that, through the establishment of new collaborations, the successful applicant will further strengthen ties between the Department of Biochemistry and other units in the Faculties of Science and Medicine.

Applicants should have a thorough background in enzyme and/or receptor biochemistry, with a Ph.D. in one of these areas, or closely related field. The successful applicant will have an established track record of research, and at least two years post-doctoral experience. Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, full CV, a three page research proposal, a one page discussion of teaching experience and philosophy, and a list containing the names of at least three referees with complete contact information - all submitted as a single pdf document of less than 2MB to Dr. Mark Berry, Head of Department, at biochem@mun.ca by not later than September 17, 2018, using the subject heading “Enzyme/Receptor Biochemistry tenure-track position”. Khashayar Ghandi hired by University of Guelph

Congratulations to Khashayar Ghandi who has been hired by the University of Guelph. He was a visiting scientist at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Oxford, UK. Prior to that he was a research associate at the University of British Columbia. He holds a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Simon Fraser University. David Cramb Appointed as Dean of Faculty of Science at Ryerson University

David Cramb has been appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Science at Ryerson University in Toronto. Dr. Cramb was previously a faculty member at the University of Calgary (website).
