Cory Widdifield hired at the University of Regina

Congratulations to Dr. Cory M. Widdifield, who has been appointed as an Assistant Professor at the University of Regina. He holds a B.Ed. in chemistry and physics from the University of Windsor. He completed an M.Sc. in chemistry at the University of Windsor under the supervision or Rob Schurko and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Ottawa under the supervision of David Bryce.  He was an NSERC postdoctoral fellow at CRMN / ENS-Lyon with Lyndon Emsley. He was then a visiting scientific researcher at the University of Southampton with Graeme Day. He held another postdoctoral position with Paul Hodgkinson at Durham University. He was a Visiting Assistant Professor at Oakland University from 2017 to 2020. Cory's area of research is solid state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and has published 38 peer reviewed articles in the field.

The Department of Chemical and Physical Sciences at the University of Toronto Mississauga invites applications for a full time teaching stream position in the area of Chemistry, with a preference for Analytical, Inorganic, or Physical/Computational Chemistry. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream with an expected start date of July 1, 2021, or shortly thereafter. The University of Toronto is a tri–campus entity and the successful candidate will also have a close relationship with the Department of Chemistry on the St. George campus and the Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences on the Scarborough campus.

 

Applicants must have earned a PhD in Chemistry, or a related area, by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter. We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement our existing departmental strengths in biological and protein chemistry, medicinal chemistry, biophysical chemistry, and organometallic chemistry. The successful candidate will join a dynamic community engaged in pedagogic scholarship. Candidates must have teaching expertise in a degree granting program at the undergraduate level, including lecture and laboratory preparation/delivery, curriculum development, and mentorship of undergraduate students. A demonstrated keen interest in developing novel approaches to engaging undergraduates of all academic backgrounds is required. Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to exemplary pedagogical practices and teaching-related scholarly activities.

 

The successful candidate will be required to deliver courses in introductory undergraduate general chemistry and upper year courses depending on curricular needs and their area of specialization. They are also expected to supervise undergraduate research projects. The candidate will additionally engage in pedagogical advancement, and lead positive change in our educational programs that represent the evolving needs for chemistry, science, and technology in society in Canada and around the world. It is expected that such creative educational development activities will be communicated to the broader teaching community (nationally and internationally) through conference presentations and publications.

 

Evidence of excellence in teaching and pedagogical inquiry may be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences as documented on the CV; strong letters of reference; and a teaching dossier to include a strong teaching statement, sample course syllabi and course materials, and undergraduate teaching evaluations. Dalhousie University: 10-month Limited Term Instructor, 100% FTE

The Department of Chemistry at Dalhousie University invites applications for a 10-month limited term instructor beginning September 2020.

Duties: The primary responsibilities of this position are coordination and delivery of 1st year (introductory) chemistry courses, including course instruction, online delivery of course material, all aspects of grading and evaluation, curriculum development, class administration and organization. Other responsibilities include advising of students, academic administration, professional development, and outreach and community service.

This position reports to the Dean of Science though the Chair of the Department of Chemistry.

The position requires a minimum of MSc degree in Chemistry, with a PhD preferred, and a minimum of 2 years teaching experience at the university level. Experience in online course development and student advising is considered an asset. Familiarity or experience with online/technological tools such as MS Office Applications including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Forms, Bookings, and Teams/Teams Live Events, Brightspace LMS, LON-CAPA Online Homework Platform, and Articulate 360 Storyline is also an asset. The DFA Collective Agreement, 2017-20, defines total compensation for the position, including salary and benefits.
