University of Manitoba: Department Head

The Department of Chemistry is inviting applications for a full-time position as Head at the rank of tenured Professor or Associate Professor. The Headship is set to commence on January 1, 2025, or on a mutually agreed-upon date for a five-year term with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory review.  The Professor or Associate Professor appointment would be a continuing position. Department is seeking an established scholar with a commitment to excellence in teaching, research and academic leadership. Outstanding candidates in any area of chemistry or biochemistry will be considered. The successful candidate will have a track record of high-quality scholarly research leading to peer-assessed publications, will have established an independent, innovative, scholarly, externally fundable research program, and will have demonstrated strong teaching contributions. The successful candidate should exhibit strong administrative, leadership and management skills, as well as evidence of the ability to work in a collaborative environment. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities :

The Department currently has 20 full time tenured and tenure track faculty members and 8 Instructors, and offers Honours, Major and Cooperative undergraduate programs in Chemistry and Biochemistry, and MSc and PhD degrees in all of the major sub-disciplines of Chemistry including Analytical, Biochemistry, Inorganic, Organic, Materials Science, Physical and Quantum Theoretical Chemistry.

Qualifications :

The Department has a well-established and equipped research facility, including a Cryo- Transmission Electron Microscope, X-ray diffractometers for proteins and small molecules, 4 Liquid and solid-state NMR Spectrometers, an Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometer and a Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Mass Spectrometer among others, and is supported by strong research links with other departments within the Faculty of Science, including Microbiology, Physics and Astronomy, Biological Sciences, as well as those within the Faculties of Agricultural and Food Science, Engineering, and Medicine. University of Calgary: Assistant Professor in the area of Quantum Materials

Position Description

The Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Quantum Materials. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2024, or a mutually agreed upon date.      

We are seeking an emerging scholar who will establish and lead an original and innovative research program related to the design, characterization, synthesis, modeling and/or application of tailored quantum materials. The successful candidate will attract competitive external funding to support their research activities, attract excellent trainees, and develop them into independent researchers. The successful candidate will also work within highly collaborative, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research teams involving academic and industry partners.

The successful applicant will support positive student learning outcomes and experiences. They will develop and teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses on topics related to one or more of the engineering disciplines within the Schulich School of Engineering. Furthermore, they will actively contribute to curriculum development, graduate student supervision and mentoring, and will provide service in support of their Department(s), School, University, and Profession.

Memorial University of Newfoundland: Theoretical/Computational Chemistry Related to Sustainability

The Department of Chemistry, Memorial University, Newfoundland and Labrador, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1st, 2024 (negotiable), subject to budgetary approval. The successful applicant will develop an externally funded research program in any area of Chemistry.

The position requires a Ph. D. degree (or equivalent) and post-doctoral experience in any area of Chemistry or associated field, a demonstrated track record in research, and an aptitude for teaching. Preference will be given to applicants whose research interests complement current faculty in the department and/or the University and correspond to the broadly defined theme of sustainable chemistry. Dalhousie University: Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Observational Chemical Oceanography.

The Department of Oceanography at Dalhousie University is seeking applicants for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Observational Chemical Oceanography. Applicants must have a strong record of research excellence. The applicants should have expertise in measuring inorganic carbon parameters and other climate-relevant chemical properties, and interest and experience in sea-going research and ocean sensors. The applicants’ program of research should complement the existing research activities by chemical, biological, geological and physical oceanographers in the Department. Interests and experience with cross-disciplinary oceanographic research and inter-disciplinary research with areas outside of oceanography are an asset.

The Canada Research Chair (CRC) program was established by the Canadian Federal Government with the purpose of attracting outstanding researchers to the Canadian university system. Dalhousie University: 12-month limited term instructor

The Department of Chemistry at Dalhousie University invites applications for a 12-month, 100% FTE limited term instructor beginning June 3, 2024.

Duties: The primary responsibilities of this position are coordination and delivery of 1st-year (introductory) chemistry courses, including course instruction, all aspects of grading and evaluation, curriculum development, class administration and organization. Other responsibilities include advising of students, academic administration, professional development and outreach and community service.

This position reports to the Dean of Science through the Chair of the Department of Chemistry.

This position requires a minimum of MSc degree in Chemistry, with a PhD preferred, and a minimum of 2 years teaching experience at the university level. Experience with online/technological tools including MS Office Applications (Teams, Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Forms), Brightspace LMS, LON-CAPA Online Homework Platform and Remark OMR Office is required.

The DFA Collective Agreement, 2022-25, defines total compensation for the position, including salary and benefits.

The department offers a wide range of chemistry courses and students can pursue a Major, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. studies in the usual divisions of Chemistry as well as in interdisciplinary programs. University of Victoria: Assistant Teaching Professor in Analytical or Physical Chemsitry

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Victoria invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor in Chemistry. The successful applicant will be offered a tenure-track appointment in the teaching stream with a proposed start date of September 1, 2024. A PhD in physical or analytical chemistry is required.

The candidate's qualifications, experience and overall market demand will determine a candidate’s final salary offer. The salary for this position includes a competitive salary range of $115,927 - $143,204. About the Role

The Department of Chemistry and Physics invites applications for a permanent-track Laboratory Instructor L2 position which will commence July 1, 2024, subject to final budgetary approval.

The successful candidate will be a passionate teacher who will make substantial contributions to the delivery of Physics laboratories for courses in the Bachelor of Science majors. At a minimum, applicants should have an MSc in Physics or a closely related field. Experience teaching and developing undergraduate laboratories in Physics, strong technical skills, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently will be considered assets. The successful candidate will:

  • teach Physics laboratories, mainly at the first-year level but also in upper-level courses, including preparation and marking;

  • contribute to the development of laboratory experiments and materials; 

  • investigate teaching methods and equipment for use in laboratories;

  • mentor and evaluate other laboratory instructors;

  • assist with lab coordination, and liaise between laboratory Instructors and course coordinators to help maintain consistent course standards;

  • and contribute service to the department.
