York University: Department Chair

University of Toronto - Scarborough: Teaching Stream Appointment in Inorganic Chemistry

The Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences at the University of Toronto Scarborough invites applications for a teaching stream appointment in Inorganic Chemistry. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, and will commence on July 1, 2017. 

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry at the time of appointment or shortly thereafter. Applicants must have demonstrated expertise in inorganic chemistry, with strong evidence of excellence in teaching inorganic and general chemistry at all levels including high enrolment courses. Candidates with experience in modern analytical techniques are preferred. 

Significant contributions to enhancing our inorganic chemistry course offerings, including lectures, laboratories and tutorials, will be expected, in addition to regular classroom teaching. Experience and demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical practices and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activity are required. This can be demonstrated through excellent course evaluations, a coherent statement of teaching philosophy that is linked to evidence of excellent pedagogical practice, and/or demonstrated superior performance in other teaching related activities, including performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, or excellent conference posters or presentations. Experience and/or knowledge related to excellent pedagogical practice as it applies to teaching large classes will be considered an asset. 

The appointment is at the University of Toronto Scarborough, which is a research-intensive institution with an interdisciplinary commitment, a multicultural student body, and a modern campus. Paul Johnson Hired by Université Laval

Congratulations to Paul Johnson who was hired as an assistant professor of theoretical chemistry at  Université Laval. Paul completed a Ph.D. with Paul Ayers at McMaster Univesity and a simultaneous Ph.D. in physics from Universiteit Gent with Dimitri Van Neck and Patrick Bultinck. He completed his B.Sc. in chemistry at Carleton University.

McMaster University: Drug Discovery

The Department of Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences and the Michael G. DeGroote Institute for Infectious Disease Research at McMaster University invites applications for up to three faculty positions to facilitate the growth of a Faculty initiative in drug discovery. Specifically, candidates at the assistant - associate professor rank are sought in the areas of medicinal chemistry, protein x-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy.

McMaster University has embarked on an ambitious program to develop the area of preclinical drug discovery and has outstanding facilities in high-throughput chemical screening, natural products and models of disease, x-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy, and protein studies. McGill University is seeking candidates for a tenure-track position at the Assistant/ Associate Professor level to be appointed jointly in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics (Faculty of Medicine) and in the Department of Chemistry (Faculty of Science). Qualifications for this position include a PhD, MD or equivalent and postdoctoral experience. The Irving K Barber School of Arts and Sciences (IKBSAS) at the Okanagan Campus of the University of British Columbia invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor appointment in Biochemistry. The appointment will be held in Chemistry (http://chem.ok.ubc.ca/welcome.html), with opportunities for intra- and inter-Faculty research collaborations. The successful candidate will be an excellent interdisciplinary scholar who has demonstrated strong research productivity and will be expected to establish an independent, rigorous, innovative, high-impact, externally-funded research program. Qualified candidates with expertise in experimental areas related to structural biology, membrane biophysics, and protein and nucleic acid biochemistry are particularly encouraged to apply. A doctoral degree and postdoctoral or equivalent experience in biochemistry or a related field are required. The proposed research should complement existing research programs in Chemistry and other disciplines in the Faculty and across campus. These include single-molecule biophysics, chemical neurobiology, glycobiochemistry, mechanistic enzymology, and natural product chemistry and metabolomics.

The appointee will have demonstrated experience as, or capacity to be, an excellent teacher and mentor of undergraduate and graduate students, as well as ability to teach existing courses in the department. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to curriculum development and course delivery specific to area of expertise and to undertake service responsibilities at the Departmental, Faculty, University, and professional levels, as appropriate.
