Description
The Department of Chemistry at St. Francis Xavier University invites applications for a probationary tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of Biochemistry to begin July 1, 2026. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.
Applicants will be evaluated on their potential to contribute to the development of a biochemistry concentration offered for BSc Major and Honours chemistry degrees at StFX. Candidates should have a PhD in Biochemistry or a related discipline from a recognized university as well as have expertise to teach introductory and upper-year biochemistry courses and have evidence of excellence in teaching and of a well-defined program of research and potential for its development, within the context of a primarily undergraduate institution.
Some of the responsibilities of the successful candidate include:
- Establish a vibrant, externally-funded research program in the field of biochemistry (broadly defined) which incorporates undergraduate (B.Sc.) trainees and may involve graduate (M.Sc.) trainees
- Teach a variety of undergraduate-level biochemistry courses
- Supervise B.Sc. honours students engaged in independent research
- Contribute to curriculum development
- Membership on committees and other general service to the university
