Canada Research Chair (Tier II) – Theoretical/Computational or Biological Chemistry

The Canada Research Chair (CRC) Program was established by the Government of Canada to enableCanadian universities to foster research excellence and enhance their role as world-class centers of research in the global and knowledge-based economy. Tier II Chairs, tenable for five years and renewable once, are for exceptional emerging researchers, acknowledged by their peers as having the potential to be leaders in their fields. The University of New Brunswick is inviting applications for a NSERC CRC (Tier II) in the area of Theoretical/Computational or Biological Chemistry, at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor  to begin as soon as CRC approval is received. The Department of Chemistry wishes to strengthen its research capacity in either or both of these two areas. It is anticipated that the successful candidate would be appointed to the Department of Chemistry taking into account the candidate’s research expertise and planned program of research and scholarship.


The successful candidate for a Chair in Theoretical/Computational or Biological Chemistry will have demonstrated potential and capacity to undertake independent and creative research in an area related to one or both of these disciplines. The candidate must have a completed PhD, an innovative and original research program, and a high potential to attract external funding. A demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels is also expected.


The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include engaging in innovative externally funded research that represents excellence in Theoretical/Computational or Biological Chemistry research. The establishment of productive research collaborations within and outside UNB would also be anticipated. The successful candidate will contribute to complementary areas of research within the University, and attract, develop and retain excellent students and future researchers.


Submissions received before October 24, 2015 will be granted full consideration. Once recommended by the Search Committee, the candidate is considered for an appointment in the Department of Chemistry, nominated to the Vice-President (Research) for consideration by the President’s Selection Committee, and finally to the Canada Research Chairs Selection Committee that adjudicates all nominations on a national basis. The offer of an appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level will be conditional upon approval by the CRC Selection Committee.
