University of Toronto Scarborough: Clean Energy

The Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences at the University of Toronto Scarborough invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment in Chemistry, with a research focus on Clean Energy. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will begin on July 1, 2018.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, or a related field, postdoctoral experience, and an excellent publication record. We seek exceptional candidates whose research interests lie in the general area of clean energy; for example, proposed programs in electrochemical and/or microbial (bio)fuel cells, solar cells, organic materials, renewable energy, carbon capture and storage would be welcome. Such research interests could be developed within the fields of (and not limited to) Analytical/Environmental/Materials/Organic/Experimental Physical Chemistry.

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct innovative research at the highest international level and establish an outstanding, externally funded research program. They must have an emerging record of scholarly accomplishments and will provide evidence of excellence in research as demonstrated by publications in leading, field relevant academic journals, presentations at significant conferences and strong endorsements by referees of high international standing. The candidate must also have a commitment of excellence in teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels. This can be demonstrated through a coherent statement of teaching philosophy that is linked to evidence of excellent pedagogical practice, strong endorsements from referees, excellent course evaluations, and/or demonstrated superior performance in other teaching related activities, including performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience in leading successful workshops and seminars. Ideally, we seek a candidate who can articulate the principles of green chemistry in courses they would teach. Teaching requirements could include General Chemistry for first-year students and courses in other area(s) depending on the specific interests and qualifications. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences at UTSC is a multidisciplinary unit comprised of four primary groups: Chemistry, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies and Physics and Astronomy.
