University of Windsor: NSERC/PROTO Associate Industrial Research Chair in X-Ray Diffraction & Crystalline Materials

The University of Windsor’s Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, in the Faculty of Science, invites applications for a proposed NSERC/PROTO Associate Industrial Research Chair in X-ray Diffraction & Crystalline Materials at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) commencing as early as January 1, 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. This position is subject to final University budgetary approval, and conditional upon PROTO’s funding support as well as successful receipt of the NSERC Industrial Research Chair (IRC) Award.

The University of Windsor, together with PROTO Manufacturing (PROTO) as the industrial partner, seeks an enthusiastic and dynamic candidate who will be able to contribute to teaching efforts and develop a highly effective multidisciplinary research program intended to strengthen and enhance the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry’s existing focus on material science. The research program must be related to the development of innovative X-ray diffraction devices that allow for analysis of novel crystalline materials, such as metal alloys, minerals, polymers, pharmaceuticals and nanomaterials.

The successful candidate will be expected to establish and lead a vigorous research program in the fields specified above, and to attract external research funding and supervise graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to engage in collaborative activities within the research community, teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (http://www.uwindsor.ca/chemistry/), and participate in other educational, administrative and professional activities.

Successful applicants must possess: a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related discipline, extensive knowledge of X-ray diffraction, experience working with various X-ray sources, optics, goniometers and detectors, must also have industrial experience in the development of scientific instrumentation and proof of inventions; filed and/or granted patents are considered strong assets. In addition, the successful candidate must have a strong publication record in the area of crystalline materials with high-impact publications demonstrating independent research potential, shown a capacity to secure external research funding, a history of training highly qualified personnel, and the ability to interact and nurture academic/industrial partnerships.
