Vancouver Island University: Two faculty positions

Duties
The Department of Chemistry is looking for two dynamic, high calibre individuals for full-time faculty appointments with teaching and research interests at a special purpose teaching university. We invite applications from individuals interested in contributing to a growing modern undergraduate chemistry program with an emphasis on analytical chemistry and the incorporation of green chemistry principles. The program is part of a strategic expansion of program offerings in the Faculty of Science and Technology and is housed in the new Dr. Ralph Nilson Health and Science Centre with over 1000 m2 of modern teaching and project laboratory space. The degree program provides opportunities for students to specialize in Biological and Environmental Chemistry and incorporates experiential learning opportunities through undergraduate research projects. The Department is home to the internationally recognized Applied Environmental Research Laboratory, with a world-class mass spectrometry facility.
The successful candidates will be outstanding teachers and mentors to students in the classroom, laboratory, and research setting. While the department is seeking to build expertise in Analytical, Green, and Physical Chemistry, individuals in any sub-discipline of chemistry are encouraged to apply. The desired faculty members are expected to demonstrate excellence as educators, contribute to a respectful, collegial and collaborative environment, complement core departmental strengths in Biological and/or Environmental Chemistry, and maintain a program of scholarly activity/research that includes undergraduate students with the potential to utilize existing infrastructure and attract external funding. Vancouver Island University is located in Nanaimo, British Columbia, which provides access to world-class recreational opportunities and research field sites, such as the Deep Bay Marine Field Station, the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Reserve, and the Pacific Biological Station. VIU is committed to diversity as one of its core values and seeks applicants that support equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service.  Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.
