Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in Physical Chemistry UT-02/UT-03/UT-04

The Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (CCE) Department at the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) wishes to hire an indeterminate Faculty member with expertise in Physical Chemistry at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor. The rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will have completed a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related discipline at the time of hiring. The preferred start date is 1 January 2022.

All candidates are encouraged to detail their experience in physical chemistry research, academia, and/or industry in their cover letter and curriculum-vitae. Their commitment to research should be demonstrated by a strong record of peer-reviewed scientific contributions. Candidates must include  examples of up to three refereed publications devoted to physical chemistry or a closely related field. Post-doctoral research experience or relevant industrial equivalent in physical chemistry would be an asset.

The successful candidate is expected to show initiative and to develop an independent research program that can capitalize on the resources of the CCE Department. As part of their research portfolio submission, candidates should include a 5-to-10-year research program plan and an undergraduate/graduate student supervision plan. Additionally, a research program that includes collaboration with CCE Departmental Faculty, the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), Department of National Defence  (DND), industrial contacts, and/or other external contacts would be an asset.

The official language profile requirements for the position are imperative bilingual at the intermediate level (BBB/BBB). An imperative BBB/BBB profile means that a person whose first official language is French must possess, at the time of appointment, the BBB level in English and a person whose first official language is English must possess the BBB level in French.

The successful candidate is expected to teach courses in both official languages at the undergraduate and graduate levels within the CCE Department. As part of their teaching portfolio submission, candidates are encouraged to provide a description of their teaching and training objectives and demonstrate their commitment to excellence in teaching pedagogy. Candidates should also include in their portfolio a statement about their second language abilities. An undergraduate degree in Chemistry or a closely related discipline would be an asset.

The successful candidate is required to make contributions through service to the CCE Department, the Faculty, the University, and the broader community. The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a university environment is essential. Conditions of employment will require the successful candidate to obtain a reliability security clearance status.

The RMC is Canada’s largest federal university and is a bilingual teaching and research institution offering undergraduate and graduate programs in the social sciences and humanities, sciences, and engineering to members of the CAF and to civilians. As part of the DND, RMC’s primary mission is to prepare future leaders for the CAF. Whilst some Faculty are active CAF members in uniform, most Faculty members are civilians and have active research programs that are supported by the DND, industrial, and/or national research funding. Research groups have a mixture of civilian and CAF members. The CCE Department is one of the largest at the RMC and offers a vibrant and cooperative teaching and research environment with both civilian and CAF Faculty. The CCE Department offers B.Sc., B.Eng. (accredited by the CEAB), M.Eng., M.A.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. Degrees. The CCE Department has an active research program with more than 60 researchers and over $6M from industrial, DND, and/or national funding sources. The CCE Department operates an extensive suite of analytical equipment and resources used for both undergraduate teaching and for Faculty research programs. Further, the CCE Department has a knowledgeable and experienced technical staff that assist in the operation of the CCE Department, undergraduate laboratory activities, and Faculty research programs.

Asset Qualifications
