The Department of Chemistry in the Faculty of Science at York University invites highly qualified applicants for an Assistant Professor position in Atmospheric Chemistry. This is a tenure-track appointment to the Professorial Stream to commence on July 1, 2024.
The Department of Chemistry is a diverse, dynamic, and collaborative community with over 20 research groups composed of over 80 graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. Additional faculty members in the teaching stream provide a state-of-the-art learning environment to our undergraduate student population comprising around 400 Chemistry and 250 Biochemistry majors.
Candidate Qualifications
- Degree: PhD and postdoctoral experience in Atmospheric Chemistry or a related field are required.
- Research Expertise:
- A coherent and well-articulated program of research in Atmospheric Chemistry that aligns with the new research priorities of the Department that span four United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Good Health and Well Being, Affordable Clean Energy, Responsible Energy and Consumption, and Climate Action. The research program of the successful candidate should complement areas of strength already present in the Department and across the institution. The 2023-2028 Strategic Research Plan showcases the depth, breadth, and ambition of research at York.
- A record or evident promise of generating innovative, substantive, rigorous, and as appropriate, externally funded research.
- A record or evident promise of making influential contributions and demonstrating excellence in the field (e.g., sustained record of publication in high quality peer- reviewed journals or as book chapters; presentations at major conferences; and strong recommendations from referees of high standing).
- The successful candidate will be expected to secure and maintain external research funding
- Teaching
- A record or evident promise of excellence, in teaching and dedication to students (e.g., teaching statement, teaching accomplishments, and pedagogical innovations (e.g., in high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning)).
- Suitability for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies, given that the position will involve graduate teaching and supervision.
