University of Manitoba: Department Head

The Department of Chemistry is inviting applications for a full-time position as Head at the rank of tenured Professor or Associate Professor. The Headship is set to commence on January 1, 2025, or on a mutually agreed-upon date for a five-year term with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory review.  The Professor or Associate Professor appointment would be a continuing position. Department is seeking an established scholar with a commitment to excellence in teaching, research and academic leadership. Outstanding candidates in any area of chemistry or biochemistry will be considered. The successful candidate will have a track record of high-quality scholarly research leading to peer-assessed publications, will have established an independent, innovative, scholarly, externally fundable research program, and will have demonstrated strong teaching contributions. The successful candidate should exhibit strong administrative, leadership and management skills, as well as evidence of the ability to work in a collaborative environment. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities :

The Department currently has 20 full time tenured and tenure track faculty members and 8 Instructors, and offers Honours, Major and Cooperative undergraduate programs in Chemistry and Biochemistry, and MSc and PhD degrees in all of the major sub-disciplines of Chemistry including Analytical, Biochemistry, Inorganic, Organic, Materials Science, Physical and Quantum Theoretical Chemistry.

Qualifications :

The Department has a well-established and equipped research facility, including a Cryo- Transmission Electron Microscope, X-ray diffractometers for proteins and small molecules, 4 Liquid and solid-state NMR Spectrometers, an Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometer and a Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Mass Spectrometer among others, and is supported by strong research links with other departments within the Faculty of Science, including Microbiology, Physics and Astronomy, Biological Sciences, as well as those within the Faculties of Agricultural and Food Science, Engineering, and Medicine.
