An ability and willingness to contribute to the life of the Department and the University through collegial service.

For the position in chemistry, commensurate experience in chemistry education and pedagogy would be considered an asset. The successful candidate will be required to teach general chemistry including the following TMU courses: CHY102, CHY104, CHY 113, CHY203, and/or other similar courses.

For the position in biology, commensurate experience in biological education and pedagogy (i.e. discipline based education research) would be considered an asset. Candidates will be required to teach anatomy, biology, and physiology including the following TMU courses: BLG143, BLG144, BLG601, BLG701, and/or other similar courses.

Our committee recognizes that scholars have varying career paths and that career interruptions can be part of an excellent academic record. Candidates are encouraged to provide any relevant information about their experience and/or career interruptions.

Note: Limited Term Faculty appointments at Toronto Metropolitan University may not exceed a combined total of four years. Applicants with prior Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) LTF appointments need to consider this limitation, as it may render them ineligible to apply.

Peter Sues hired at Trent University

Peter received an Honours Bachelor of Science at the University of Toronto while majoring in Chemistry and Biochemistry. As an undergraduate student, he worked in the laboratory of Prof. Douglas W. Stephan exploring the chemistry of Frustrated Lewis Pairs. He continued his education at the University of Toronto earning a doctorate under the mentorship of Prof. Robert H. Morris. His Ph.D. research focused on a variety of projects including the development of iron-based hydrogenation catalysts and the chemistry of ruthenium complexes with highly strained phosphine ligands. Peter subsequently joined the laboratory of Prof. Richard R. Schrock at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a postdoctoral research associate. There, he expanded his chemical knowledge while working on tungsten- and molybdenum-based olefin metathesis catalysts. Using his skills as an inorganic and organometallic chemist, Peter began his independent career at Kansas State University in 2017. Then in 2025, he returned home to join the Chemistry Department at Trent University where his laboratory will study the development of novel catalytic systems for renewable energy applications, olefin metathesis, and other catalytic transformations.
