University of Ottawa: NMR Facility Technician

$63110-$79,719

Position Purpose

Reporting to the NMR Facility Manager, the NMR Facility Technician is responsible for training users to conduct routine and advanced NMR measurements, conducting technically advanced NMR measurements on a service basis, as well as assisting with instrument maintenance, modification and development.

Essential Qualifications

A M.Sc. degree in chemistry (Ph.D. preferred) with a firm understanding of the fundamental principles of Fourier transform NMR spectroscopy.

At least two years of practical hands-on experience with NMR data collection and interpretation, preferably in both solids and liquids NMR spectroscopy.

Extensive computer experience with LINUX and WINDOWS operating systems as well as with computer networking.

The physical strength to move a 180 L dewar of liquid nitrogen up and down an access ramp.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Contract of approximately 12 months, with possibility of renewal. Eligibility to benefits will be determined upon hiring. This position is excluded from all union accreditation units.
