Alison Bain hired at Oregon State University

Congratulations to Alison Bain, who has been hired as an assistant professor at Oregon State University. Alison completed a BSc in chemistry with a concentration in nanotechnology at Carleton University in 2013. She moved to the University of British Columbia and completed a MSc, under the supervision of Dr Ed Grant, working to predict the physical properties of woodpulps using Raman spectroscopy and chemometrics. In 2016, Alison moved to McGill University to start a PhD with Dr Thomas Preston. Here, she began to work in the field of aerosols, designing single particle experiments to investigate aerosol optical properties. Upon completion of her PhD in 2021, Alison moved to the University of Bristol in the UK for a postdoc with Dr Bryan Bzdek where she investigated the surface partitioning of surfactants in aerosol droplets. Alison continues to study aerosol physical properties using a combination single particle and macroscopic techniques and has begun work aimed at understanding the role of atmospheric microplastics on aerosol properties.
