University of New Brunswick: Tier 2 Canada Research Chair

The Department of Chemistry at the University of New Brunswick invites applications for a NSERC Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in the area of Theoretical or Computational Chemistry. This tenure-track appointment will be at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The successful applicant will be nominated for a Tier 2 CRC in the April 2018 nomination cycle. The appointment can start as early as October 2018 but no later than 1 July 2019.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated potential and capacity to undertake independent and
creative research in an area related to one or both of these disciplines. UNB requires the candidate to have a completed PhD, an innovative and original research program, and a high potential to attract external funding. A demonstrated ability to teach effectively is also expected. The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include leading a program of innovative externally funded research that represents excellence in Theoretical or Computational Chemistry and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The establishment of productive research collaborations within and outside UNB would also be anticipated. The successful candidate will contribute to complementary areas of research within the university, and attract, develop and retain excellent students and future researchers.

Tier 2 chairs are intended for exceptional emerging scholars (i.e., candidates must have been an active researcher in their field for fewer than 10 years at the time of nomination), acknowledged by their peers as having the potential to lead in their field. Potential applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree, and where career breaks exist, such as maternity, parental or extended sick leave, clinical training, etc., and/or where applicable exceptional circumstances are present, may have their eligibility for a Tier 2 chair assessed through the CRC Program’s Tier 2 justification process. Please contact the UNB Office of Research Services for more information. Please consult the Canada Research Chairs website for full program information, including further details on eligibility criteria.

The Department of Chemistry at the University of New Brunswick has a long tradition of research and teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels and in diverse areas of chemistry. There are also numerous well-established collaborations and cooperative programs with other units at UNB, including the departments of biology, physics and chemical engineering. The department is situated on the Fredericton campus of UNB, in the vibrant and diverse provincial capital of New Brunswick. Applications for this position should be made by submission of a cover letter indicating areas of research experience and interests, a curriculum vitae, a detailed research proposal (maximum 5 pages), statement of teaching philosophy and the names of three referees (with contact information) to:
