The Faculty of Science at the University of Calgary invites applications for a full-time 3-year limited-term appointment at the rank of Instructor, commencing as early as September 1, 2018. This is a joint-appointment between the Department of Chemistry and the Natural Sciences Program.

The successful candidate will be required to teach and manage courses in Chemistry, primarily at the first year (general) chemistry level. Experience in teaching organic chemistry is considered an asset. Duties will include instruction, as well as course, tutorial, and lab coordination.

The successful candidate will also be required to teach and manage cross-disciplinary courses in the Natural Sciences Program. Duties will include collaborating as part of an instructional team and facilitating team-based learning. Experience providing formative feedback on student writing would be an asset and, more broadly, experience with a variety of assessment tools is desirable.

Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry and demonstrate a strong, substantial record of teaching excellence. Demonstration of a breadth of scientific literacy across disciplines would be an asset.  Strong written and oral communication skills are essential. The candidate must be comfortable using technology both in and out of the classroom.

The successful candidate should have a background demonstrating innovation in teaching and learning, and will be expected to remain abreast of current developments in science, particularly in Chemistry, and in pedagogy, particularly as it relates to instruction in Chemistry or in cross-disciplinary science contexts.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute substantially and at a high level of quality to the teaching efforts of the Department. Information about the Department and its programs can be found online.
