Posting details

The department of Chemistry invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in Organic Chemistry, Physical Organic Chemistry, or Physical/Theoretical Chemistry at an Assistant Professor level. The successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory general and organic chemistry courses as well as specialized courses related to the candidate’s field(s) of expertise. Candidates will be expected to maintain an independent research program (research in chemical education in the applicant’s field is acceptable), achieve excellence in Teaching and Learning, and participate in service opportunities both on an intra-institutional level and within the community.
Given UFV’s position in British Columbia’s academic environment, applicants who share our passion for, and commitment to, excellence in undergraduate teaching in a student-centered environment, and can successfully integrate their scholarship and research into their teaching, will be given primary consideration. Excellence in teaching or teaching potential will be demonstrated by exceptional communication skills, preferably with teaching experience at the undergraduate level, and a feasible plan to include undergraduate students as the driving force behind a proposed research program. Excellence in research should be commensurate with the applicants implied level of experience. An ability to teach and explore new knowledge across traditional disciplinary boundaries, and use of innovative methods in teaching will be considered an asset.
Consideration will also be made for applicants eager to actively participate in departmental activities, service, events, and initiatives. A commitment to an ongoing program of professional development is required.  We particularly encourage applications from Indigenous scholars, teachers or researchers.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Organic Chemistry, Physical Organic Chemistry, or Physical/Theoretical Chemistry, or solid indication of imminent completion. Other fields closely related to organic chemistry will also be considered. Post-Doc experience, and teaching experience preferred.
