University of Victoria: Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Organic Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Victoria invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with expertise in the area of Organic Chemistry. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a research program of international stature and teaching organic chemistry courses at all levels.

Requirements

PhD in a relevant area is required and postdoctoral experience or equivalent experience is desirable;
Ability and competence to teach chemistry courses at all levels, and including interest in teaching undergraduate courses and interaction with students;

  • Ability for curriculum development;
  • Ability to teach and train high quality research personnel;
  • A research proposal with promise of high impact;
  • Potential to become a leader in the chosen research field;
  • Compatibility with the Department of Chemistry at UVic, including hypothesis-driven fundamental research, participation in joint research objectives and activities within the Department, opportunity for collaboration, ability to interact with the members of the Department;
  • Feasibility of the proposed research program, including the potential to attract research funding, and the facilities available or achievable at UVic.

  • a cover letter,
  • a curriculum vitae,
  • a concise research proposal (5 pages, 12 point font, single spaced),
  • a teaching dossier (including a teaching philosophy),

  • names and contact information for three individuals able to act as referees.

Faculty and Librarians at the University of Victoria are governed by the provisions of the Collective Agreement.  Members are represented by the University of Victoria Faculty Association.
