University of Toronto - Scarborough: Teaching Stream Appointment in Inorganic Chemistry

The Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences at the University of Toronto Scarborough invites applications for a teaching stream appointment in Inorganic Chemistry. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, and will commence on July 1, 2017. 

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry at the time of appointment or shortly thereafter. Applicants must have demonstrated expertise in inorganic chemistry, with strong evidence of excellence in teaching inorganic and general chemistry at all levels including high enrolment courses. Candidates with experience in modern analytical techniques are preferred. 

Significant contributions to enhancing our inorganic chemistry course offerings, including lectures, laboratories and tutorials, will be expected, in addition to regular classroom teaching. Experience and demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical practices and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activity are required. This can be demonstrated through excellent course evaluations, a coherent statement of teaching philosophy that is linked to evidence of excellent pedagogical practice, and/or demonstrated superior performance in other teaching related activities, including performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, or excellent conference posters or presentations. Experience and/or knowledge related to excellent pedagogical practice as it applies to teaching large classes will be considered an asset. 

The appointment is at the University of Toronto Scarborough, which is a research-intensive institution with an interdisciplinary commitment, a multicultural student body, and a modern campus. The office of the successful candidate will be located in the recently opened Environmental Science and Chemistry building on UTSC’s North campus.
