University of Ottawa: Part-time academic staff

The Part-Time Professor - (LTA) Long-Term Appointment in the Department of Chemistry and Biomolecular Sciences, will be assigned to teach undergraduate level courses in English and in French. This is a five-year contract for the equivalent of 7 courses (21 credits) of teaching per year, including 3 credits worth of academic support or administrative/service duties.

Minimum Requirements

Ph. D in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related discipline. Experience and/or specialization in the field of biochemistry or physical chemistry. Ph.D. en chimie, biochimie, ou discipline similaire. Expérience et/ou spécialisation dans le domaine de la biochimie ou la chimie physique.

Teaching undergraduate level courses in English and French with a specialization either in biochemistry or in physical chemistry, depending on the expertise of the most qualified candidate. Qualified applicants who are already part of the APTPUO bargaining unit will be considered first.

University of Ottawa: Tier 2 - Biomaterials

The University of Ottawa invites applications for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Biomaterials. Candidates are sought whose interests are at the interface of chemistry or physics and biology, and who propose to develop (or are already actively engaged in) a research program in biomaterials.  The successful candidate will have access to the world-class core facilities in NMR, mass spectrometry and X-ray crystallography in the Faculty, materials characterization and biocatalysis facilities that are part of the Centre for Catalysis Research and Innovation, and core facilities in Biology and Medicine. According to Maclean’s 2013 University Rankings, the University of Ottawa ranks #2 in Canada in research intensity in natural and health sciences.  The Department of Chemistry and Biomolecular Sciences at the University of Ottawa is currently ranked #2 in Canada and is one of the top 75 Departments worldwide (according to ARWU) and currently hosts two winners of the Herzberg Canada Gold Medal, eight Canada Research Chairs and five University Research Chairs.

Title of the position: Assistant professor level, but higher ranks will be considered under exceptional circumstances.

Duties: The functions of a member of the academic staff include, in varying proportions: a) teaching activities; b) scholarly activities revealed by research or professional work; c) academic service activities, d) supervision of graduate students.

Terms: Tenure-track position

Rank and salary: Regular academic tenure-track appointment in the Faculty of Science, with a salary consistent with the collective agreement of the Association of Professors of the University of Ottawa.
Require qualifications and Work experience: Ph.D. or equivalent in Chemistry or Physics and postdoctoral experience is mandatory. A demonstrated excellent research track record in biomaterials research.  A commitment to teaching and graduate training, a strong track record in and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, excellent communication skills in either English or French.  Passive knowledge of the other official language in Canada is a requirement for tenure.  English-French bilingualism is an asset.

About the Position

The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. and demonstrate outstanding potential for independent research through an excellent track record of high quality research. Eva Hemmer hired by the University of Ottawa

Congratulations to Dr. Eva Hemmer who has been hired as an assistant professor at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Hemmer completed her PhD in material science at Saarland University. She worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the area of biomaterials at Tokyo University of Science. She then held a postdoctoral fellowship at INRS-EMT and the Université du Québec.

Her research will be in the areas of bioimaging, nanoparticles, and optical materials.
