Trent University: 12-month limited-term appointment in organic chemistry

Trent University invites applications for a twelve month limited-term appointment in the field of organic chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor, subject to budgetary approval.  The position will start August 15, 2019.  A PhD degree in chemistry is required and demonstrated organic chemistry teaching experience is strongly preferred.  The successful candidate will teach six one-semester courses at the undergraduate level in chemistry.  These courses may include, but are not limited to, Introductory Organic at the second year level, Introductory Chemistry I at the first year level, Advanced Synthetic Organic at the third year level, Applications of NMR spectroscopy and Mass Spectrometry at the fourth year level.  Most teaching will take place in the Fall and Winter semesters, however, Summer semester teaching may be required.

University of Victoria: Assistant Professor of Organic Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Victoria invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with expertise in the area of Organic Chemistry. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a research program of international stature and teaching organic chemistry courses at all levels. In addition to this position, the Department has advertised a position for an Assistant Teaching Professor in Organic Chemistry.

University of Victoria: Assistant Teaching Professor with expertise in the area of Organic Chemistry.

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Victoria invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor with expertise in the area of Organic Chemistry.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching organic and bioorganic chemistry courses at the second and third year level and may be required to teach chemistry at other levels. The appointee will become an outstanding teacher and mentor of undergraduate students, and will contribute to the development and delivery of core programs in Chemistry.

The Department of Chemistry is a research-intensive unit at the University of Victoria and is dedicated to providing outstanding programs for undergraduate students in Chemistry. Requirements for the position include:

The normal teaching assignment is 4 courses per semester; however, faculty are encouraged to apply for a reduction in teaching to allow for an active research program. York University: Tenure-track faculty position in organic chemistry

The Department of Chemistry, in the Faculty of Science at York University invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment at the Assistant Professor level in an area of organic chemistry that involves synthesis or the development of synthetic methodology, to commence July 1, 2017. Of particular interest would be candidates whose organic research would complement York’s existing strengths in organic and biological chemistry and interface with cognate research efforts in such areas as medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical (including neuropharmaceutical) chemistry, or materials chemistry.

Clarissa Sit Hired by St. Mary's

Congratulations to Dr. Clarissa Sit, who has been hired as an assistant professor at St. Mary's University in Halifax, NS. Dr. Sit completed her B.Sc. and Ph.D. at the University of Alberta, where she worked for John Vederas. She then was a NSERC Banting postdoctoral fellow with Jon Clardy at Harvard Medical School. Her research interests include chemical ecology and natural product discovery.

Ryerson University: Tenure Track Faculty Position in Organic Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry and Biology in the Faculty of Science at Ryerson University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Organic Chemistry at the Assistant Professor level. The successful applicant will have a PhD in Chemistry or closely associated field, with post-doctoral experience preferred. The successful candidate will be an organic chemist, who uses synthetic, analytical or physical chemical methods to explore research problems at the interface of chemistry and biology. Candidates shall hold a strong research profile (e.g., evidence of an emerging scholarly record, ability to establish and maintain an independent, externally funded research program), evidence of high-quality teaching, student training and curriculum development, and a capacity for collegial service. This position commences September 1, 2016, subject to final budgetary approval.

The Department of Chemistry and Biology is in a phase of dynamic growth, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition to BSc degrees in Chemistry, Biomedical Science and Biology, the department offers an MSc and PhD program in Molecular Science as well as MASc and PhD program in Environmental Applied Science and Management. Memorial University: Tenure Track Academic Position in Organic Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry, Memorial University, Newfoundland and Labrador, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective on or after 1 September 2016, subject to budgetary approval. The successful applicant will be required to develop an internationally recognized, externally funded research program in Organic Chemistry and their proposed research should fit into the areas identified in Memorial’s Research Strategy Framework (http://www.mun.ca/research/framework/themes.php). The Faculty of Science at the University of Ottawa invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the field of Organic or Medicinal Chemistry.  The successful candidate will have access to the core facilities in NMR, mass spectrometry and x-ray crystallography in the department, materials characterization and biocatalysis facilities that are part of the Centre for Catalysis Research and Innovation and core facilities in Biology and Medicine.   The Department of Chemistry and Biomolecular Sciences at the University of Ottawa is currently ranked #2 in Canada and is one of the top 100 Departments worldwide (according to ARWU) and hosts two winners of the Herzberg Canada Gold Medal, seven Canada Research Chairs and five University Research Chairs.  

Title of the position: Assistant professor, higher rank will be considered under exceptional circumstances.

Duties: The functions of a member of the academic staff include, in varying proportions: a) teaching activities; b) scholarly activities revealed by research; c) academic service activities, d) supervision of graduate students.

Terms: Tenure-track position

Wage: Assistant professor salary scale commensurate at $77,379.00

Skills requirements:

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent in Organic Chemistry.  Postdoctoral experience in Medicinal Chemistry is desirable.

Work experience: A demonstrated excellent research track record in organic chemistry.  A commitment to teaching and graduate training, a strong track record in and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, excellent communication skills in English and French.  The candidate will be expected to teach in French.

The Department of Chemistry at Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, invites applications for a tenure-track position in Bio-Organic Chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor.  The position will commence preferably on July 1st, 2016 but may commence at a later date.  The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. in the field of Bio-Organic Chemistry or a closely related field and will normally have postdoctoral or industrial experience.  Applicants with a background in the areas of bio-organic, physical organic, biochemistry, Green Chemistry, organic materials, or catalysis are particularly encouraged to apply.  Outstanding candidates with a commitment to excellence in teaching and research are sought for this position.  Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate classroom and lab instruction as well as curriculum development primarily in the area of introductory biochemistry, but also in introductory general chemistry, organic chemistry, and spectroscopy.  Duties may also include graduate-level supervision.  The successful candidate will develop and maintain an innovative, externally-funded research program in his/her field, an excellent teaching record at the undergraduate level, and play an active role in the administrative life of the Department of Chemistry, the Faculty of Science, and the University in general.
The Department of Chemistry at Saint Mary’s University offers a nationally-accredited Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Chemistry (Major and Honours).  Undergraduate students are actively involved in faculty research and graduate students are enrolled in the M.Sc. in Applied Science and Ph.D. in Applied Science Programs.  As well, the Department is home to the Atlantic Centre for Green Chemistry and has a number of faculty members active in Green Chemistry research.  Faculty members in the Department have access to advanced instrumentation, including a new 300 MHz NMR, LC-PDA/ESI-MS, GC-FID/MS, ICP-MS, TGA-MS, GFAAS, SEM/EDX, Potentiostats (CV, ASV, etc.), DSC, FT-IR, single crystal X-ray diffractometer, and various spectrophotometers, all with excellent technical support.  All laboratories and research spaces in the Department have been rebuilt as part of a major renovation of the Science Building.
