Congratulations to Dr. T. Jane Stockmann, who has been hired as a tenure-track assistant professor of physical chemistry at Memorial University. Dr. Stockmann received her PhD in 2013 under Professor Zhifeng Ding at Western University. She then moved to Switzerland to the group of Pr. Hubert Girault at EPFL as a post-doctoral fellow, and performed numerical evaluations of O2 reduction at soft interfaces. From 2014 to 2018, she worked in France in the group of Drs. Frédéric Kanoufi and Catherine Combellas as a post-doctoral fellow on 3 projects: (i) characterising oscillating reactions encapsulated inside vesicles using scanning probe techniques; (ii) ensemble and single nanoparticle detection through optical changes in surface reflectivity for biosensor applications; (iii) and developing single nanoparticle detection at soft interfaces through a Horizon 2020 Marie-Skłodowska Curie Action.
Research in the Stockmann lab seeks to generate new materials for electrochemical applications in the fields of health, energy, and the environment. At first, the group will focus on the development of novel ionic liquid (IL) and organic ionic plastic crystalline (OIPC) substrates with incorporated nanoparticles as nano-composite materials for flexible electrode, catalytic, and (bio)sensing applications. These nanofluids and nanoplastics will be incorporated, for example, into soft probes for enhanced/selective scanning probe methodologies, such as scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM), utilizing ultramicro- and nano-electrodes to electrochemically image anything from living cells to environmental and industrial samples. These nano-composites can also be incorporated into sensors.
You can read more about Dr. Stockmann's work on Research Gate and follow her on twitter.
