University of Toronto: Assistant Professor - Polymer and Materials Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry in the Faculty of Arts and Science, University of Toronto, invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Polymer and Materials Chemistry. The appointment will commence on July 1, 2020, or shortly thereafter. 

Applicants must have earned a PhD degree by date of the appointment or shortly thereafter in the broadly defined area of Polymer and Materials Chemistry, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and strengthen our existing departmental strengths. To that end, we are interested in applicants whose expertise and research interests include any of the following: fundamental studies and applications directed toward biological and health related problems, sustainable chemistry, renewable energy, nanochemistry, and optoelectronics. 

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct innovative research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, competitive, independent, externally-funded research program. Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in research as demonstrated by the submitted research statement and a record of publications in top-ranked and field relevant academic journals or a publication pipeline that is meeting high international standards, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements by referees of high international standing. 

We seek applicants with a strong academic background and demonstrated excellence in teaching.  Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, strong endorsements by referees, and the teaching dossier, including a statement of teaching philosophy, teaching evaluations, and sample course syllabi, submitted as part of the application.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Congratulations to Dr. Guillaume Bélanger-Chabot, who has been hired as an assistant professor of chemistry at Laval University. His area of research is main group inorganic chemistry. He completed his Ph.D. at Laval University and a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Wuerzburg.

Université de Sherbrooke: Bio-géochimie, chimie verte et catalyse, matériaux fonctionnels et auto-assemblés, électrochimie, photonique et modélisation moléculaire, et synthèse organique, organométallique et inorganique

L'Université de Sherbrooke sollicite des candidatures afin de pourvoir à deux postes de professeures ou professeurs au Département de chimie de la Faculté des sciences. Il s'agit d'emplois réguliers à temps complet au Campus principal.

Le Département de chimie de l'Université de Sherbrooke offre un environnement exceptionnel pour la recherche et l'enseignement, accueillant plus de 160 étudiantes et étudiants au total des trois cycles, un corps professoral de renommée internationale comptant 14 professeures et professeurs et une vaste gamme d'infrastructures à la fine pointe de la technologie. Les professeures et les professeurs du Département de chimie sont titulaires de chaires, de bourses et de subventions qui témoignent de la qualité de leurs recherches en bio-géochimie, en chimie verte et catalyse, en matériaux fonctionnels et auto-assemblés, en électrochimie, en photonique et modélisation moléculaire, et en synthèse organique, organométallique et inorganique.

Le Département de chimie a été complètement rénové (2016) afin d'offrir des laboratoires de recherche et d'enseignement modernes.   • Posséder de solides compétences pédagogiques et enthousiasme pour l'enseignement aux trois cycles d'études universitaires.
  • Avoir la capacité et la volonté d'interactions avec les professeures et professeurs du Département de chimie et de la Faculté des sciences.
  • Atout : Avoir la capacité d'enseigner en français ou d'atteindre cette capacité rapidement (2 ans)

Trevor VandenBoer hired by York University

Congratulations to Dr. Trevor VandenBoer, who has been hired as an Assistant Professor in Environmental Analytical Chemistry at York University. His research program in the Department of Chemistry at York University is investigating reactive nitrogen atmospheric chemistry within the Atmospheric Chemistry Laboratory. He is also supported by the Alfred P Sloan Foundation Chemistry of the Indoor Environment program to develop new analytical techniques for quantitative speciation of reactive nitrogen. He completed a combined Honours Bachelor of Science in Analytical Chemistry and Forensic Science from Laurentian University in 2007. He has subsequently completed an MSc (2008) and PhD (2012) in Environmental and Atmospheric Chemistry with Prof. Jennifer Murphy from the University of Toronto on the quantitation and chemistry of alkyl amines and nitrous acid. He held a Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship with Dr. Susan Ziegler at Memorial University in St. John’s, Newfoundland where he examined the biogeochemical interactions of reactive nitrogen exchanged between the biosphere-atmosphere interface.

Tao Zeng hired by York University

Congratulations to Tao (Toby) Zeng from who has been hired as a faculty member in chemistry at York University. Tao is a computational chemist. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of Alberta with Mariusz Klobukowski. He then worked as a postdoctoral fellow with P.N. Roy at the University of Waterloo and at Cornell University with  Nandini Ananth and Professor Roald Hoffmann. From 2015 to 2019, he was an assistant professor at Carleton University.
