About the opportunity
The successful applicant will teach undergraduate courses in the areas of general chemistry, organic chemistry, environmental chemistry, food chemistry, instrumental analysis, and closely related disciplines for students in the Faculty of Agriculture. The exact teaching assignments may change with the requirements and needs of programs. The successful applicant is expected to build strong connections with the Canadian and regional agriculture, agri-food, and environmental industries through teaching and outreach activities. The individual must be highly motivated with sound judgement, professionalism, integrity, collegiality, resourcefulness, innovation, self-motivation, excellent communication skills and strong organizational skills. The service responsibilities include the maintenance and operation of some of the analytical instruments within the department.

This position will be located in the Department of Plant, Food, and Environmental Sciences of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dalhousie Agricultural Campus, Bible Hill, Nova Scotia.

Qualifications Required
The successful applicant must have:

  • A minimum of a Master's degree in Chemistry, or a closely related discipline such as Agricultural, Food or Environmental Chemistry from a recognized university.
  • At least one year of teaching experience at the undergraduate level in Chemistry or a closely related discipline is required.
  • Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree majoring in Chemistry.
  • Applicants must have knowledge and experience in the role of Chemistry in Agriculture, Agri-food, and/or Environment.
  • Theoretical knowledge and practical experience with a wide range of analytical instruments, such as (but not limited to) atomic absorption spectroscopy, gas chromatography, high-performance liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, microplate reader, and basic extraction systems is required.

Desirable assets include:

  • A Doctoral degree in Chemistry or a closely related discipline is an asset.
  • Demonstrated excellence and strong passion for teaching in a multi-cultural, multi- national environment, strong leadership skills, and interpersonal skills are desirable assets.
  • Demonstrated skills in collegiality, resourcefulness, innovation, and excellent communication.

University of Calgary: Assistant Professor (Teaching), Quantum Science and Technology, Faculty of Science

 

Position Parameters

The Faculty of Science invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor (Teaching). This is an open disciplinary search in the general area of Quantum Science and Technology; any candidate with scholarship and teaching expertise within the general areas of quantum science and technology represented in the Faculty of Science is encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be appointed in one of the departments in the Faculty of Science, depending on specific expertise. The anticipated start date is April 1, 2023.

Description of Position

The successful candidate will develop and teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of quantum science and technology, including graduate courses within a new Master of Quantum Computing program launching in Fall 2023. Depending on the needs of the Faculty of Science and on the specific background of the successful candidate, other courses beyond quantum science and technology could also become part of the workload.

Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., physics, computer science, mathematics), and must have a strong record of teaching at the post-secondary level and an academic background in quantum science and technology. Specific expertise in quantum computing and in science education pedagogy will be assets. Candidates who are near completion of their program will be considered so long as they have earned their PhD prior to the position start date. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning and a desire to support student learning inside and outside of the classroom. The successful candidate will have tangible evidence of collegiality and interest in working for their extended program, department, faculty, and institution.

 

Description of Work Environment

The home department for this position will be identified based on the successful candidate's academic background. Outstanding opportunities for collaboration will exist to develop and enhance pedagogical strategies through active engagement with the Institute for Quantum Science and Technology and Calgary's new Quantum City hub. Active engagement with the Taylor Institute of Teaching and Learning at the University further enhances the opportunities to support and develop active learning approaches.

Mount Allison University: Synthetic Inorganic Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Mount Allison University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in Synthetic Inorganic Chemistry with applications to Organometallic or Materials Chemistry.  The appointment will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor and will commence on July 1, 2023, subject to budgetary approval.

Applicants must possess a Ph.D. and post-doctoral experience and must provide evidence of an ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary and student-centred environment. We particularly seek candidates with broad expertise, and those eager to contribute strong undergraduate teaching in inorganic chemistry, as well as physical or organic chemistry.   • Être titulaire d’un doctorat (Ph. D.), complété ou en voie d’obtention, en science forensique ou l’équivalent OU d’un doctorat (Ph. D.) en chimie (Toxicologie / Chimie analytique/ Narcotiques et stupéfiants et/ou Incendies et explosions).
  • Être membre de l’Ordre des chimistes du Québec est un atout.

Expérience :

  • Enseignement :

    • La personne candidate devra être en mesure d'enseigner les cours de science forensique, pour lesquels le département a de grands besoins (par exemple toxicologie, narcotiques et stupéfiants et/ou incendies et explosions). Idéalement, elle devra posséder de l'expérience en enseignement et une bonne connaissance en chimie analytique.
       
  • Recherche :

    • Détenir un excellent dossier de publications dans le domaine de la toxicologie, des narcotiques et stupéfiants et/ou des incendies et explosions.

    • La personne candidate devra être en mesure de développer une programmation de recherche autonome. Ses partenaires privilégiés pour développer des collaborations se retrouveront au Département de chimie, biochimie et physique où elle pourrait se joindre au Groupe de recherche en science forensique. La personne candidate pourrait aussi tisser des collaborations avec les collègues d’autres départements.

  • Services à la collectivité :

    • La personne candidate devra contribuer aux comités universitaires, départementaux et de programmes.

  • Depuis 2012, le département offre une formation de premier cycle dans le domaine de la science forensique. L’an passé, cette offre s’est intensifiée par le lancement de 4 cheminements enchâssés dans un tout nouveau baccalauréat en science forensique. Notre positionnement en science forensique est unique sur la scène canadienne. Une maitrise en science forensique existe au sein du département, alors que le doctorat est prévu dans les prochaines années. La personne candidate pourra donc encadrer des étudiants et développer sa recherche dans le cadre de ces programmes. En attendant l’ouverture de ce doctorat, et compte tenu du profil de la personne candidate recherchée, cette dernière pourrait aussi encadrer des étudiants au Doctorat en sciences de l'énergie et des matériaux.
