The Department of Chemistry at The University of Winnipeg invites outstanding candidates to apply for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor with specialization in Biochemistry.  The position will support a funded research program in the biochemical and neurological pathways regulating feeding and nutrition.  Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in biochemistry, chemistry or related field and have relevant postdoctoral experience.

Candidates must have a strong commitment to excellence in research and teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an active, externally-funded independent research program in an area related to eating disorders. The candidate will be expected to work with researchers in the Division of Neurodegenerative Disorders at the St. Boniface Hospital Albrechtsen Research Centre. Research support will be provided by St. Boniface Hospital. The successful candidate will also have a strong commitment to teaching.  They will be expected to develop and teach undergraduate courses in Chemistry and Biochemistry, as well as supervise undergraduate and graduate student research projects. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate actively in departmental and university service activities.

The selection committee will begin reviewing applications on March 22, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled; full consideration is assured for applications received by March 19, 2021.  Subject to budgetary approval, this position will commence July 1, 2021.  Salary levels will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Ryerson University: Discipline-based Education Research

Tenure Track Position in Discipline-based Education Research [DEBR]

Located in downtown Toronto, the largest and most culturally diverse city in Canada and on the  territory of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples, the Department of Chemistry and Biology in the Faculty of Science at Ryerson University, as part of a major new initiative, is creating a cluster of pedagogical excellence designed to better understand how science impacts the world in the form of science education, communication and outreach. As part of this clustered hire the Department of Chemistry and Biology invites applications for a tenure track, discipline-based education research position at the rank of Assistant Professor effective July 1, 2021, subject to final budgetary approval. All candidates with research and teaching expertise in science education scholarship will be considered.

The successful discipline-based education research scholar (DBER) science scholar will engage in a combination of teaching, research, and service duties, maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across all activities. Responsibilities will include teaching and supervising at the undergraduate and graduate levels (predominantly in chemistry/biology); contributing to the undergraduate and graduate programs, including curriculum development/expansion as appropriate; establishing and maintaining a strong research agenda; and participating in the academic life of the Department, the Faculty, and the University.

Candidates must hold a completed PhD in either chemical or biological sciences. 

In addition, the successful candidate must present evidence of: 

  • a strong program of established (or a potential for establishing an emerging) discipline-based education research program or creative projects that are active, innovative, and impactful;
  • evidence of, or potential for, excellence in teaching that outlines scientific teaching philosophy, teaching accomplishments (from a variety of perspectives including community and academic), and pedagogical practices; 
  • strong communication and expository skills and an demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor and train HQP; 
  • commitment to our values of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion as it pertains to service, teaching, and scholarly research or creative activities, including a dedication to making learning accessible and inclusive for a diverse student population; and 
  • an ability and willingness to positively transform the life of the Department and the University through collegial service.
  • having commensurate experience in the area of chemical and/or biological education or pedagogy would be considered an asset.

Brandon University: 1 year teaching term

Applications are invited for a one-year term position in the area of Analytical/Physical Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry, effective August 1, 2021, or as mutually agreed. The Department offers B.Sc. and B.Sc. (Honours) degree programs with Majors and Minors in Chemistry. Teaching responsibilities: The ideal candidate should be able to teach the lecture and laboratory sections of Physical Chemistry I (18:260 in BU Undergrad Course Calendar), Analytical Chemistry (18:262 in BU Undergrad Course Calendar), Instrumental Chemistry (18:362 in BU Undergrad Course Calendar) as well as General Chemistry (18:160 in BU Undergrad Course Calendar).

Research & Service responsibilities: The successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply for internal research funding, to supervise undergraduate honours projects in Chemistry, and to participate on faculty committees.

Rank and Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Qualifications: A minimum of a Ph.D. in Chemistry or other Chemistry related discipline. Experience in undergraduate teaching would be an asset. Experience teaching Physical Chemistry, Analytical and Instrumental laboratories would be an asset.
