The Opportunity:

CUE’s Faculty of Science is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Professor of Chemistry in the Department of Mathematical and Physical Sciences. The Chemistry Program at CUE offers 3- and CSC accredited 4-year Bachelor of Science degrees in chemistry, giving students the option to either prepare for a professional career or move forward to professional programs or graduate school. The chemistry program is designed to give students a broad understanding of the foundational concepts in chemistry. Students are exposed to extensive laboratory experience that supports and expands upon concepts discussed in lectures while allowing them to gain a variety of practical skills.

This position is available to begin January 1, 2023, or shortly thereafter.

Qualifications:

• PhD in Chemical Sciences and in particular Physical/ Computational Chemistry
• WHMIS, First Aid
• Excellence in both research and teaching, or strong potential to develop such excellence.
• A willingness and ability to take on academic administrative duties.
• Knowledge of academic programs, with a commitment and ability to advance the quality and content of programs, courses, initiatives, and the student learning experience.
• Demonstrated ability to work collegially as a team member with a variety of teams and stakeholder groups.
• Proficiency with Google Email and Apps, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and familiarity with educational technologies, with an aptitude to learn other software as required.
  
  

Other Information

The normal undergraduate teaching assignment is 6 hours a week in the first year and 9 hours a week for subsequent years. CUE provides opportunities for reductions in teaching to pursue research. In addition, the successful candidate will be committed to growing professional relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the broader community, promoting diversity and inclusion as broadly understood.

About the position

The Department of Chemistry at Brock University invites applications for a probationary tenure track organic chemistry position with expertise in the areas of Chemical Biology, Chemical Biotechnology, Natural Product Discovery and/or Synthesis, and/or Analytical Biochemistry. Applications will be considered at the rank of Assistant Professor from individuals with a PhD degree in Chemistry or related discipline and post-doctoral experience.  The appointment will commence on or after January 1, 2023, subject to final budgetary approval. Successful applicants will have a strong research and teaching background in organic chemistry, chemical biology, chemical biotechnology and analytical biochemistry. An ability and willingness to support teaching and research in both organic chemistry and biotechnology is an asset. Applicants are expected to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and to develop and maintain a thriving, externally funded, research program.
