The Department of Physical & Environmental Sciences at the University of Toronto Scarborough invites applications for a teaching-stream faculty appointment in the field of Analytical Chemistry. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream and will begin on July 1, 2019.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Chemistry with expertise in Analytical Chemistry, completed by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter. We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and strengthen our existing departmental strengths.

Candidates must have teaching expertise in a degree granting program at the undergraduate level, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online material/lectures. Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to pedagogical practices and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver courses in Analytical and General Chemistry, including both laboratory and lecture-based teaching. The development of new courses and laboratory experiments will be required, along with the supervision of undergraduate research projects. Additional expertise in any of the following areas will also be considered an asset: separation science, bio-analytical techniques, inorganic chemistry.

Candidates must have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and pedagogical practices with experience in both laboratory and lecture settings. Evidence of excellence is provided through a teaching dossier, which should include: a coherent statement of teaching philosophy that is linked to evidence of excellent pedagogical practice; sample course syllabi either of courses delivered by the candidate, or planned for the future; sample course materials; and any teaching evaluations available; as well as strong letters of reference from referees of high standing. The teaching dossier should also highlight any significant teaching accomplishments such as awards, teaching grants, workshops led, presentations at significant conferences, or superlative course evaluations.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
