Dr. Karl Jobst hired by Memorial University

Congratulations to Dr. Karl Jobst who has been hired as an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Memorial University of Newfoundland. He completed his B.Sc. and Ph.D. at McMaster University and previously work at the Ministry of Environment of Ontario. His area of expertise is environmental mass spectrometry. He describes his research as:

"The identities of most environmental toxicants and their role in causing chronic disease are unknown. Our research aims to address this challenge through the development of novel nontargeted mass spectrometry techniques and sophisticated informetric and computational tools. We utilize multidimensional chromatography and high-resolution mass spectrometry to unravel complex environmental and biological media. We complement these experiments with quantum chemical calculations to elucidate structures and reaction mechanisms. Ultimately, we seek to understand how the (un)intentional release of chemicals impacts the environment and human health.."
