The Faculty offers technical, undergraduate, and graduate (M.Sc. & Ph.D.) programs in agriculture, aquaculture, environment, and related life and social science disciplines, and is home to approximately 1,000 students and 50+ professors, including current and past Canada Research Chairs. About the opportunity
The successful applicant will teach undergraduate courses in the areas of general chemistry, organic chemistry, environmental chemistry, food chemistry, instrumental analysis, and closely related disciplines for students in the Faculty of Agriculture. The exact teaching assignments may change with the requirements and needs of programs. The successful applicant is expected to build strong connections with the Canadian and regional agriculture, agri-food, and environmental industries through teaching and outreach activities. The individual must be highly motivated with sound judgement, professionalism, integrity, collegiality, resourcefulness, innovation, self-motivation, excellent communication skills and strong organizational skills. The service responsibilities include the maintenance and operation of some of the analytical instruments within the department.

This position will be located in the Department of Plant, Food, and Environmental Sciences of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dalhousie Agricultural Campus, Bible Hill, Nova Scotia.

Qualifications Required
The successful applicant must have:

  • A minimum of a Master's degree in Chemistry, or a closely related discipline such as Agricultural, Food or Environmental Chemistry from a recognized university.
  • At least one year of teaching experience at the undergraduate level in Chemistry or a closely related discipline is required.
  • Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree majoring in Chemistry.
  • Applicants must have knowledge and experience in the role of Chemistry in Agriculture, Agri-food, and/or Environment.
  • Theoretical knowledge and practical experience with a wide range of analytical instruments, such as (but not limited to) atomic absorption spectroscopy, gas chromatography, high-performance liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, microplate reader, and basic extraction systems is required.

Desirable assets include:

  • A Doctoral degree in Chemistry or a closely related discipline is an asset.
  • Demonstrated excellence and strong passion for teaching in a multi-cultural, multi- national environment, strong leadership skills, and interpersonal skills are desirable assets.
  • Demonstrated skills in collegiality, resourcefulness, innovation, and excellent communication.
