Trent University: Experimental physical chemistry

Trent University in Peterborough invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Chemistry Department at the rank of assistant professor in the field of experimental physical chemistry starting July 1, 2024, subject to budgetary approval. Applications are welcome in all areas of physical chemistry, however candidates with research interests in the areas of materials/surface chemistry, sustainable energy or catalysis are particularly encouraged to apply. The Department has vibrant research programs in material science, catalysis, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, and biochemistry.

A Ph.D. degree in chemistry, or a directly related discipline is required. We expect the successful candidate to develop a robust, externally funded research program in physical chemistry. Potential for research success will be evaluated based on a strong publication record, relevant post-doctoral experience, fit with existing faculty and infrastructure, and a submitted research proposal. The potential for high-caliber teaching and mentorship in physical chemistry at the undergraduate level is an asset. The successful candidate will actively recruit and supervise graduate students in Trent’s Materials Science graduate program and contribute to service at the departmental and university level as required by the departmental practices and the Trent University Faculty Association collective agreement. 

The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses at the undergraduate level, including but not limited to, courses in quantum mechanics, reaction kinetics, and thermodynamics.
