About the opportunity
The successful applicant will teach undergraduate courses in the areas of general chemistry, organic chemistry, environmental chemistry, food chemistry, instrumental analysis, and closely related disciplines for students in the Faculty of Agriculture. The exact teaching assignments may change with the requirements and needs of programs. The successful applicant is expected to build strong connections with the Canadian and regional agriculture, agri-food, and environmental industries through teaching and outreach activities. The individual must be highly motivated with sound judgement, professionalism, integrity, collegiality, resourcefulness, innovation, self-motivation, excellent communication skills and strong organizational skills. The service responsibilities include the maintenance and operation of some of the analytical instruments within the department.

Qualifications Required
The successful applicant must have:

  • A minimum of a Master's degree in Chemistry, or a closely related discipline such as Agricultural, Food or Environmental Chemistry from a recognized university.
  • At least one year of teaching experience at the undergraduate level in Chemistry or a closely related discipline is required.
  • Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree majoring in Chemistry.
  • Applicants must have knowledge and experience in the role of Chemistry in Agriculture, Agri-food, and/or Environment.
  • Theoretical knowledge and practical experience with a wide range of analytical instruments, such as (but not limited to) atomic absorption spectroscopy, gas chromatography, high-performance liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, microplate reader, and basic extraction systems is required.

Desirable assets include:

  • A Doctoral degree in Chemistry or a closely related discipline is an asset.
  • Demonstrated excellence and strong passion for teaching in a multi-cultural, multi- national environment, strong leadership skills, and interpersonal skills are desirable assets.
  • Demonstrated skills in collegiality, resourcefulness, innovation, and excellent communication.

University of Calgary: Assistant Professor (Teaching), Quantum Science and Technology, Faculty of Science

 

Position Parameters

The Faculty of Science invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor (Teaching). This is an open disciplinary search in the general area of Quantum Science and Technology; any candidate with scholarship and teaching expertise within the general areas of quantum science and technology represented in the Faculty of Science is encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be appointed in one of the departments in the Faculty of Science, depending on specific expertise. The anticipated start date is April 1, 2023.

Description of Position

The successful candidate will develop and teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of quantum science and technology, including graduate courses within a new Master of Quantum Computing program launching in Fall 2023. Depending on the needs of the Faculty of Science and on the specific background of the successful candidate, other courses beyond quantum science and technology could also become part of the workload.

Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., physics, computer science, mathematics), and must have a strong record of teaching at the post-secondary level and an academic background in quantum science and technology. Specific expertise in quantum computing and in science education pedagogy will be assets. Candidates who are near completion of their program will be considered so long as they have earned their PhD prior to the position start date. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning and a desire to support student learning inside and outside of the classroom. The successful candidate will have tangible evidence of collegiality and interest in working for their extended program, department, faculty, and institution.

 

Description of Work Environment

The home department for this position will be identified based on the successful candidate's academic background. Outstanding opportunities for collaboration will exist to develop and enhance pedagogical strategies through active engagement with the Institute for Quantum Science and Technology and Calgary's new Quantum City hub. Active engagement with the Taylor Institute of Teaching and Learning at the University further enhances the opportunities to support and develop active learning approaches.

Mount Allison University: Synthetic Inorganic Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Mount Allison University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in Synthetic Inorganic Chemistry with applications to Organometallic or Materials Chemistry.  The appointment will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor and will commence on July 1, 2023, subject to budgetary approval.

Une maitrise en science forensique existe au sein du département, alors que le doctorat est prévu dans les prochaines années. La personne candidate pourra donc encadrer des étudiants et développer sa recherche dans le cadre de ces programmes. En attendant l’ouverture de ce doctorat, et compte tenu du profil de la personne candidate recherchée, cette dernière pourrait aussi encadrer des étudiants au Doctorat en sciences de l'énergie et des matériaux.

University of Manitoba: Physical Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Physical Chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing on July 1st, 2023, or on a mutually agreed upon date. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The Department seeks an emerging scholar with a commitment to excellence in teaching and research. The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. and relevant post-doctoral experience (or equivalent) in any area of experimental and/or theoretical Physical Chemistry (or closely related field). Saint Mary’s University: Tenure-Track Position in Materials Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry at Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, invites applications for a tenure- track position in Chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence July 1, 2023, in the area of Materials Chemistry.

The successful candidate will have:

  • a Ph.D. in Chemistry (or a closely related field) and will normally have postdoctoral or industrial experience;
  • a strong record of research and a plan to establish an independent externally funded program;

The successful candidate will develop and maintain an innovative, externally-funded research program in their field. Primary teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate classroom and lab instruction including curriculum development in the areas of physical chemistry, materials chemistry, and first year chemistry. The successful candidate will be expected to play an active role in the administrative life of the Department of Chemistry, the Faculty of Science, and the University in general.

The Department of Chemistry offers a nationally-accredited Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree program in Chemistry (Major and Honours). Undergraduate students are actively involved in faculty research and graduate students are enrolled in the MSc or PhD in Applied Science Program. Description:

The Department of Chemical Engineering & Applied Chemistry in the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering at the University of Toronto invites applications for up to two full-time tenure stream positions in the area of sustainable chemical engineering. There are several areas of interest including but not limited to batteries, energy storage, and fuel cells; carbon capture, utilization, and storage; catalysis and photocatalysis; decarbonization of energy systems; decentralized manufacturing; fuels, chemicals and materials from sustainable feedstocks; industrial biomanufacturing of chemicals, energy, and materials; renewable hydrogen production; and waste valorization and resource recovery.

 The successful candidate will be expected to initiate and continuously lead an outstanding, independent, innovative, externally funded research program of international calibre, and teach in the chemical engineering curriculum at the undergraduate and post-graduate level. We will prioritize candidates who demonstrate the ability to sustain and lead innovative research that will advance the global frontiers of knowledge in the field, rather than only their specialization area. Collaborative and inter-disciplinary research and collegial interaction will be important elements in success. Eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer in Ontario is an asset.

Excellence in research is evidenced primarily by publications or forthcoming publications in leading journals or conferences, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements by referees of high standing. 

Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated by the statement of teaching philosophy, teaching accomplishments, and a teaching dossier including sample syllabi and teaching evaluations or other evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities, as well as strong endorsements. Other teaching related activities can include performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or excellent conference presentations or posters.
