University of Guelph: Assistant/Associate Professor in High Temperature Aqueous Che

Position Description:

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Guelph is creating a tenure track appointment for an Assistant or Associate Professor with research expertise that will complement the new NSERC/UNENE Industrial Research Chair in High Temperature Aqueous Chemistry, which was awarded to Professor Peter Tremaine FCIC, with support from the University Network of Excellence in Nuclear Engineering and other industrial partners. 
The successful applicant will have a Doctoral (or equivalent) degree in experimental physical or analytical chemistry, or a closely related field. Expertise in statistical thermodynamics would be an asset. He/she will have a record of recognized research and visibility, ideally in hydrothermal solution chemistry or aqueous thermodynamics; a significant and sustained record of scholarly publications in high-level peer-reviewed journals; a strong capacity for both independent and collaborative research; and proven motivation and pedagogic abilities at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Competitive startup funding is available.
The selected candidate will be expected to develop an independent research program through an NSERC Discovery Grant, and through partnership funding opportunities in areas related to the Chair. The new faculty member will be expected to participate in workshops and other activities related to the NSERC/UNENE Chair Program (www.unene.ca). The University of Guelph has developed world-class expertise for the study of high-temperature aqueous chemistry, as well as thermodynamic and in situ spectroscopic studies of solute structure and speciation under conditions encountered by Canada’s nuclear industry and under geological conditions. Ryerson University: Protein Biochemistry

The Department of Chemistry and Biology in the Faculty of Science at Ryerson University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Protein Biochemistry at the Assistant Professor level. Candidates must have a PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or another related field and a strong record of postgraduate research productivity. This position is expected to synergize with and complement current faculty with an emphasis on the study of protein structure/function. The successful candidate will be a protein biochemist, who uses structural biology, structure-function analysis, enzymology, bioinformatics and/or systems biology in their research program. Candidates shall have a strong research profile (e.g., evidence of an emerging scholarly record, ability to establish and maintain an independent, externally funded research program), evidence of high-quality teaching, student training and curriculum development, and a capacity for collegial service. Lecturer in Biochemistry, Definite Term, Department of Chemistry, University of Waterloo

The Department of Chemistry in the Faculty of Science at the University of Waterloo invites applications for a full-time definite term Lecturer position in Biochemistry. The successful candidate will teach five courses over three terms per year in introductory biochemistry, introductory and advanced metabolism, and related topics. In addition to teaching, they will have a substantial role in advising students and in further developing the Biochemistry undergraduate program, which is a joint program of the Chemistry and Biology departments. While the appointment will be made initially for a three-year term, this position fills an important role in the program; it is anticipated that an appointee with outstanding performance will be considered for on-going employment as a Continuing Lecturer during a second three-year term.

A doctoral degree in biochemistry or a closely related discipline is required; postdoctoral experience is desired. They should have established an outstanding biochemistry teaching record or be able to provide evidence of potential for high-quality teaching in biochemistry at all levels within the undergraduate curriculum.

The salary range of this position at the Lecturer rank is $65,000 to $85,000 for 12 months. Anticipated start date for this position is September 1, 2017.

The Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry at the University of Toronto invites applications for a Teaching Stream appointment in Laboratories in Chemical Engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream. The expected start date is July 1, 2017.

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter. Hands on practical experience in industry is a significant asset. Our most immediate need is in the delivery of our undergraduate laboratories in chemical engineering fundamentals, including unit operations, pilot scale processes, fluid flow, heat/mass transfer, separations, process monitoring and control, chemical reactions, bioprocesses etc. The two-story pilot lab is a ‘jewel’ in our program. It has seen significant recent investments with more planned as a key part of our strategic initiatives. The goal is to enhance experiential learning and innovation at both the undergraduate and graduate level as well as to connect it into other programs in engineering and science across the University. University of Saskatchewan: Mass Spectrometry-based analysis in proteomics and metabolomics

Applications are invited for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of Mass Spectrometry-based analysis in proteomics and metabolomics with a particular focus on agricultural, rural, indigenous and occupational health. The research focus of this position will fall within the rural and agricultural mission and vision of the Canadian Centre for Health and Safety in Agriculture (CCHSA). Applicants must have a PhD degree, a minimum of 2 years postdoctoral research experience, have a demonstrated record of research productivity, and be committed to undergraduate and graduate education. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and grow a research program in mass spectrometry with an emphasis in qualitative and quantitative proteomics, metabolomics, and small molecule analysis with preferred emphasis on clinical applications in rural and/or indigenous health and relationships between rural and agricultural exposures and human health. Previous experience in agricultural and rural health mass spectrometry-related research and in mass spectrometry facility development, operation, supervision and management is an asset. 

The candidate will be expected to establish a nationally leading research program, secure external research funding, work collaboratively with members from CCHSA, the Department of Medicine, and other units on campus, supervise postdoctoral fellows and graduate students, and participate in graduate and undergraduate teaching. As part of CCHSA's CFI-funded National Agricultural Industrial Hygiene Laboratory and the Core Mass Spectrometry facility in the College of Medicine (Academic Health Sciences Building), mass spectrometry capacity at CCHSA will provide exciting opportunities for collaborative and leading research in the College of Medicine. Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS): Aquatic Biogeochemistry

Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) is a graduate and post-graduate research and training university. First research-intensive University in Canada in terms of grants per professor, INRS brings together some 150 professors and more than 800 students and postdoctoral fellows in its centers in Montreal, Quebec City, Laval, and Varennes. Conducting fundamental research essential to the advancement of science in Quebec as well as internationally, INRS research teams also play a critical role in developing concrete solutions to problems facing our society.

The Centre Eau Terre Environnement seeks to fill a tenure-track position of professor-researcher in aquatic biogeochemistry. The Centre's biogeochemistry research group benefits from major research facilities including state-of-the-art field and laboratory equipment. The group's current research focuses on limnology, ecotoxicology of trace metals, and geochemistry of aquatic environments.

Main Duties and Responsibilities


  • To develop, in accordance with the scientific priorities of the Centre, an innovative and effective research program in limnology or aquatic geochemistry in one or more of the following topics:
  • Aquatic ecosystem functioning under natural conditions or anthropogenic pressure;
  • Eutrophication of water bodies and restoration of disturbed ecosystems;
  • Effects of climate change and anthropization on aquatic biogeochemical cycles (e.g.: organic carbon, nutrients and trace elements);
  • To obtain funding for research activities and laboratory facilities through external grants from public and private organizations, or through industrial partnerships;
  • To participate in graduate teaching and supervision at the M.Sc., Ph.D., postdoctoral levels and research staff;
  • To contribute to the national and international recognition of INRS.


Requirements


  • A Ph.D. in biology or chemistry related to biogeochemistry;
  • A research productivity demonstrating both originality and autonomy;
  • An excellent potential to carry out research that will be original and productive, and will make a valuable contribution to the biogeochemistry group and their research activities;
  • A capacity in training and supervision at the graduate and postdoctoral levels, and in research personnel supervision;
  • A relevant postdoctoral experience or experience in government services or with the industry;
  • A capacity for funding research activities, current and recently-held grants and contracts will be considered as an asset.

Working Language

French is the working language of the Institute. Fluency in English is required.
