Dr. Leanne Chen hired by the University of Guelph [@dysprosia]

Congratulations to Dr. Leanne Chen, who has been hired as an assistant professor of computational chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Guelph. Leanne’s research program will focus on using ab initio computational methods to model reactions occurring at the electrode-electrolyte double-layer, which is arguably the most important component in an electrochemical cell. Gaining atomic-scale insight at this interface would have immense impact on the rational design of fuel cells, batteries, and other energy transformation systems such as electrocatalytic carbon dioxide reduction.

Leanne’s first foray into computational chemistry was her summer research with Suning Wang and Nicholas Mosey while working on her BScH in Chemistry at Queen’s University. She attended Stanford University for her PhD and was mentored by Jens Nørskov. She stayed in California for her Postdoctoral Scholarship, working with Thomas Miller at the California Institute of Technology.
