The Department of Chemistry at the University of Alberta invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the field of Environmental Analytical Chemistry. Exceptionally qualified applicants at the Associate Professor level may also be considered. The position has a starting date of January 1, 2022 (or earlier if possible). Consideration will be given to individuals whose research areas are of consensual interest to the faculty and complement current expertise in the Department. The Department has vibrant research programs encompassing most areas of modern chemistry including materials and nanoscience, catalysis, analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, spectroscopy, synthesis and medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, and computational chemistry. Candidates must hold a Ph.D.; successful candidates must demonstrate the potential to develop an innovative and robust externally-funded research program; engagement in relevant domestic and international research networks; and potential for high-calibre teaching and mentorship at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Research potential will be evidenced by a record of publications and presentations in high impact venues, a successful research funding history (in the case of applicants who already hold a tenure-track position), a summary of planned research projects, and appropriately supportive and detailed letters of reference. Supervisory and teaching potential will be documented via previous teaching experiences, letters of reference, and a statement of teaching philosophy.

Successful candidates must also demonstrate how they will work to expand the equity, diversity, inclusion (EDI) of the Department through a statement describing their plans to incorporate EDI into their teaching, research, mentorship, and service to the scientific community.

Interested individuals should submit their curriculum vitae, a proposal that details their innovative and original research plans, a statement of their teaching philosophy, their EDI statement, and arrange to have three confidential letters of reference sent on their behalf.

Review of applications will begin June 15, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled, with a targeted start date of January 1, 2022.
