Ryerson University: a 1-year Limited Term Faculty Teaching General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry

Located in downtown Toronto, the largest and most culturally diverse city in Canada and on the territory of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples, the Department of Chemistry and Biology in the Faculty of Science at Ryerson University, invites applications for a 1-year Limited Term Faculty (LTF) position in Chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor effective August 1, 2022.

The successful candidate will engage only in the teaching and service duties of faculty members in the Department while maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across such activities. The candidate will teach introductory courses in General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry.

Candidates must hold a completed PhD in the relevant area of Chemistry. In addition, the successful candidate must present evidence of the following:

  • potential for excellence in teaching that outlines scientific teaching philosophy, teaching accomplishments (from a variety of perspectives including community and academic), and pedagogical practices;
  • a commitment to our values of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion as it pertains to service, teaching, and scholarly research or creative activities, including a dedication to making learning accessible and inclusive for a diverse student population; and
  • an ability and willingness to contribute to the life of the Department and the University through collegial service.

Commensurate experience in the area of chemical and/or biological education or pedagogy would be considered an asset.

Note: Limited Term Faculty appointments at Ryerson University may not exceed a combined total of four years. Applicants with prior Ryerson LTF appointments need to consider this limitation, as it may render them ineligible to apply.

  • a cover letter
  • a curriculum vitae;
  • A dossier of teaching experience which should also include a teaching statement/philosophy – 5 pages max
  • A statement on equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) – 2 pages max
  • The names of three references – no letters are required at this time
