Western University: Chemistry - Assistant Professor, Term (Corrosion and Materials Degradation/Performance)

Position Profile: The Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, at the University of Western Ontario invites applications for a Limited-Term faculty appointment with responsibilities in teaching, research and service. The area of research is broadly defined as Corrosion and Materials Degradation/Performance as it relates to the nuclear industry. Teaching at the introductory level and core chemistry courses is expected. The appointment begins July 1, 2026 as a three-year, renewable Limited-Term position at rank of Assistant Professor with salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Academic Expectations: The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching within the chemistry program at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including mentorship of trainees. They will also develop an independent, externally-funded research program in electrochemistry, material science and nuclear-related corrosion issues. This research will align with Western’s strategic focus on nuclear energy and bolster Western’s strong position in nuclear-related corrosion research. The research area is expected to be complementary to existing research portfolios and contribute beneficially to the overall nuclear-related research ecosystem. Consequently, this position should exploit funding opportunities and collaborations with both governmental agencies and industrial partnerships.
