Position Profile

The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at The University of Western Ontario invites applications for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Mass Spectrometry ‘Omics for Novel Therapeutics. The successful candidate will hold a full-time tenured joint appointment as Associate Professor or Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and the Department of Chemistry.

The candidate will be expected to apply for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair and may hold cross-appointments in relevant departments. This position is restricted to applicants who self-identify as women, including transgender, gender-fluid, non-binary, and Two-Spirit individuals.

The role focuses on leadership in mass spectrometry ‘omics (e.g., metabolomics, proteomics, lipidomics), with responsibilities including acquisition and management of shared instrumentation and leadership of BioCore facilities.

Research Environment

This position is part of a broader initiative to build a world-class program in molecular biotherapeutics and diagnostics spanning discovery through clinical application.

  • Multimodal and single-cell imaging
  • High-throughput metabolomics, proteomics, genomics
  • Pre-clinical biotherapeutic production
  • Animal and containment facilities (CL2/CL3)

Candidates will collaborate with clinicians, scientists, and facility directors and contribute to large-scale funding proposals.

Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent in biochemistry, chemistry, or related field
  • Strong publication record aligned with DORA principles
  • International or national recognition
  • Demonstrated peer-reviewed funding (e.g., CIHR, NIH)
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization (EDID)
  • Excellence in research, leadership, and graduate training
  • Fluent English communication skills

Compensation

Salary range: $150,000 – $200,000 annually, with comprehensive benefits.

About the Faculties

The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry emphasizes research in healthy aging, infection and immunity, cancer, and neurobiology. Facilities include genomics, flow cytometry, BioCORE, and advanced imaging systems.

The Department of Biochemistry has 22 faculty, and research strengths include metabolomics and synthetic biology. The Department of Chemistry has 30 faculty and expertise in materials chemistry and surface science.
