Congratulations to Dr. T. Jane Stockmann, who has been hired as a tenure-track assistant professor of physical chemistry at Memorial University. Dr. Stockmann received her PhD in 2013 under Professor Zhifeng Ding at Western University. She then moved to Switzerland to the group of Pr. Hubert Girault at EPFL as a post-doctoral fellow, and performed numerical evaluations of O2 reduction at soft interfaces. From 2014 to 2018, she worked in France in the group of Drs. Frédéric Kanoufi and Catherine Combellas as a post-doctoral fellow on 3 projects: (i) characterising oscillating reactions encapsulated inside vesicles using scanning probe techniques; (ii) ensemble and single nanoparticle detection through optical changes in surface reflectivity for biosensor applications; (iii) and developing single nanoparticle detection at soft interfaces through a Horizon 2020 Marie-Skłodowska Curie Action.
Research in the Stockmann lab seeks to generate new materials for electrochemical applications in the fields of health, energy, and the environment. At first, the group will focus on the development of novel ionic liquid (IL) and organic ionic plastic crystalline (OIPC) substrates with incorporated nanoparticles as nano-composite materials for flexible electrode, catalytic, and (bio)sensing applications. These nanofluids and nanoplastics will be incorporated, for example, into soft probes for enhanced/selective scanning probe methodologies, such as scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM), utilizing ultramicro- and nano-electrodes to electrochemically image anything from living cells to environmental and industrial samples. These nano-composites can also be incorporated into sensors.

Dr. Heather Reader hired by Memorial University
Congratulations to Dr. Heather Reader, who has been hired as a tenure-track faculty member in the Department of Chemistry at Memorial University. Dr. Reader is a biogeochemist who researches dissolved organic matter in marine environments. She completed her B.Sc. in chemistry at the University of Calgary, followed by a Ph.D. at the University of Georgia. She then held postdoctoral fellowships at the Technical University of Denmark and Lund University.

Memorial University: Tenure Track Academic Position in Physical Chemistry

Huck Grover Hired by Memorial
Congratulations to Huck Grover, who has been hired by Memorial University of Newfoundland as a tenure-track assistant professor. He completed his B.Sc. (Hons) at Wifrid Laurier before completing his Ph.D. at Western University with Michael Kerr. He then moved to the University of California - Berkeley where he worked for Tom Maimone. Dr. Grover is a native of Hamilton, Ontario and completed his B.Sc. (Hons) at Wilfrid Laurier University. He then completed a Ph.D. in chemistry at Western University under the supervision of Professor Michael Kerr. Since 2014, he has been a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California - Berkeley with Tom Maimone. Huck is a natural product synthetic organic chemist who will develop new synthetic methods for the synthesis of natural products and pharmaceuticals. Congratulations Huck!
