Description

The Department of Chemistry in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto invite applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the area of Biological Chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an expected start date of July 1, 2022, or shortly thereafter.

Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Chemistry, (Chemical Biology, Biological Chemistry, or Biochemistry) by the time of appointment, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching in diverse areas of chemistry related to biological chemistry. Ideally, we seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement the existing strengths of our department (see: https://www.chemistry.utoronto.ca). We encourage applicants to review our research and teaching activities prior to applying. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding competitively funded research program.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement outlining research plans, summaries of presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing.

Evidence of excellence in teaching will be evaluated via the teaching dossier, as well as strong letters of reference. The dossier should include a teaching statement describing teaching philosophy and teaching experience and interests. The dossier can include sample course materials, and teaching evaluations or evidence of excellent performance in relevant teaching-related activities. Teaching-related activities can include performance as a teaching assistant or course/laboratory instructor, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, and conference presentations. 

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Memorial University: Tenure Track Academic Position in Physical Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry, Memorial University, Newfoundland and Labrador, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2018, subject to budgetary approval. The successful applicant will be required to develop an internationally recognized, externally funded research program in the broad area of physical chemistry and their proposed research should fit into the areas identified in Memorial’s Research Strategy Framework (http://www.mun.ca/research/framework/themes.php). Preference will be given to applicants whose research interests complement current faculty in the department and/or the University.

The position requires a Ph.D. in Chemistry, post-doctoral experience, an excellent track record in research, and an aptitude for teaching. The new appointee will also be responsible for teaching physical chemistry courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels and first year chemistry as required. UBC: Assistant Professor in Analytical Chemistry, Tenure Track

The Department of Chemistry at the University of British Columbia (www.chem.ubc.ca) is seeking an outstanding new investigator for a full time tenure-track faculty position, at the rank of Assistant Professor. We are seeking candidates of exceptional scientific talent who have demonstrated success in analytical chemistry working at the interface of one or more other areas of science including, but not limited to, biological chemistry, data science, environmental chemistry, materials chemistry, and radiochemistry.

The position requires a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or a related discipline, postdoctoral experience, and an outstanding research track record. Relevant postdoctoral experience is highly desirable. The successful candidate will develop and maintain an internationally recognized research program. As a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry, the successful applicant will be expected to effectively supervise graduate students, collaborate with other faculty members, obtain external funding, teach undergraduate and graduate Chemistry courses, and actively participate in departmental activities. University of Victoria: Assistant Professor of Organic Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Victoria invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with expertise in the area of Organic Chemistry. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a research program of international stature and teaching organic chemistry courses at all levels. Lakehead University: Teaching Focused Tenure Track Position

The Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies at Lakehead University, Thunder Bay Campus, invites applications for a Teaching-Focused Tenure-Track position in the Department of Chemistry. The position will commence August 1, 2017 at the rank of Assistant Professor.

The Department offers accredited degrees in Chemistry and joint Chemistry-Biology, as well as a specialized degree in Medical Sciences, and has research chairs in Materials and Environmental Chemistry, Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry, and Medical Imaging. The successful candidate will teach four full-course equivalents per year in: introductory chemistry, service chemistry courses in support of other departments' requirements, as well as in the candidate's area of expertise. In addition to teaching, the candidate will be required to participate in the administrative work of the Department and University, in activities such as outreach and recruitment, serving on administrative and student committees, curriculum development, and liaison with academic departments being supported by service courses.

The preferred candidates will have:
An earned Ph.D. in Chemistry (any sub discipline) from a recognized university post-doctoral or other relevant experience is an asset;
A demonstrated commitment to teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels and evidence of an effective and established teaching record (or a clear demonstration of potential teaching ability), and of educational leadership;
The potential to make service contributions to the Department.

The University of Toronto invites applications for one joint tenure-stream appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry (51%) and the School of the Environment (49%). The appointment is in the area of Toxicological Chemistry (Environmental, Biological, Analytical), and will commence on July 1, 2017.

We seek a candidate who conducts research on the impacts of either anthropogenic or natural environmental contaminants on organisms in one or more of the following or related areas: elucidating the molecular mechanisms of toxicity of xenobiotics, development of novel assays to identify toxins in the environment, the application of metabolomics or proteomics to study environmental exposure. This research is intended to complement the strengths of the Department of Chemistry in Environmental, Biological and Analytical Chemistry. We seek applications from candidates whose research program fits well with the collaborative research in our Department and with the interdisciplinary focus of the recently formed School of the Environment.

University of Alberta: Analytical and Environmental Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Alberta invites applications for several tenure-track faculty positions.  The starting date is July 1, 2017.  The rank for these positions is directed at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.  The Department seeks applicants in the fields of: 1) Analytical Chemistry, 2) Environmental Chemistry.  Preferential consideration will be given to outstanding individuals whose research areas are of consensual interest to the faculty and complement current expertise in the Department.  The Department has vibrant research programs encompassing most areas of modern chemistry including materials and nanoscience, catalysis, analytical chemistry, spectroscopy, synthesis and medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, computational chemistry, and instrumentation and analysis (www.chem.ualberta.ca).  An outstanding research environment is offered with access to excellent support facilities.

St. Mary's University: Tenure-track, Assistant Professor, Physical-Analytical Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry at Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, invites applications for a tenure-track position in Physical-Analytical Chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2017. The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. in the field of Physical / Analytical Chemistry or a closely related field and will normally have postdoctoral or industrial experience. Applicants with an expertise in the areas of physical-analytical, experimental physical, materials / surface science, and/or analytical chemistry are particularly encouraged to apply. Outstanding candidates with a commitment to excellence in teaching and research are sought for this position. Candidates should be capable of classroom and laboratory teaching excellence in the areas of physical and analytical chemistry primarily at the undergraduate level, and have a passion for providing undergraduate research opportunities. All laboratories and research spaces in the Department have been rebuilt as part of a major renovation of the Science Building.
