Memorial University (Grenfell Campus): Tenure-Track Position in Environmental Science – Inorganic Chemistry

The School of Science and the Environment (Grenfell Campus) at Memorial University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Environmental Inorganic Chemistry/Geochemistry commencing 1 August 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry, environmental science, geochemistry, or a related field. Duties will include teaching a range of courses, supervising student research, and undertaking an active, externally funded research program. An interdisciplinary research background and experience with collaborative research involving industrial or government partners is desirable. Teaching responsibilities have an undergraduate focus and include a combination of introductory courses (e.g., CHEM 1200 and 1001), inorganic chemistry (i.e., CHEM 2210), senior courses emphasizing inorganic perspectives on environmental science (e.g., ENVS 3260 - Industrial Chemistry) and other courses existing or newly developed in support of the Environmental Science program (http://www.grenfell.mun.ca/academics-and-research/Pages/school-of-science-and-the- environment/Undergraduate Programs/Environmental-Science.aspx). Previous teaching experience would be an asset and applicants should be familiar with relevant instrumentation (e.g., Raman spectrophotometer). Opportunities exist to incorporate senior undergraduate students within research projects and the supervision of graduate students is strongly encouraged. The Boreal Ecosystem Research Facility (http://www.grenfell.mun.ca/campus-services/Pages/campuses/boreal-ecosystem-research-facility.aspx) is one venue that facilitates research in the School of Science and the Environment at Grenfell. A MSc program is associated with the facility and access to other MSc and PhD programs and collaborators are under development or available through the St. John's Campus of Memorial University.
