UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences: Chemical Biology

The University of British Columbia (UBC) is one of the world’s top public universities. The UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences is undergoing major expansion and investment to meet our ambitious goal of being one of the leading academic centres internationally in the pharmaceutical sciences. As part of this on-going strategic development program, research activity in the Faculty is focusing on themes that reflect areas of existing strength (i.e. nanomedicines and chemical biology), opportunities for new partnerships, and the potential for delivering long-term impact. A major emphasis is on the application of state-of-the-art concepts and methodologies to address clinically important issues in pharmacotherapy. In support of this, the Faculty will be recruiting up to ten new research faculty within the next 2-3 years.

We now invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of Chemical Biology. Applicants for this position should possess a PhD (or equivalent doctoral degree) and at least two years of relevant postdoctoral research experience. Demonstrated research accomplishments; an outstanding publication record; potential for excellence in teaching; well-developed mentoring and communication skills; and a strong commitment to undergraduate, professional, graduate, and post-doctoral education are essential. The applicant should have the potential to lead a cutting-edge, extramurally funded research program in the field of Chemical Biology. Priority will be given to candidates whose research program is closely related to drug discovery and development with an ultimate goal to enhance current drug therapies and/or develop novel drug therapies for human diseases. Other responsibilities will include teaching medicinal chemistry, drawing on fundamental concepts in organic and biochemistry; drug discovery and development; drug mechanism of action; drug-target interactions; or related topics in our PharmD, MSc/PhD, and other programs under development.

The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences is located in a state-of-the-art $150-million, 23,000-square-metre facility on UBC's Vancouver campus underpinned by world-class infrastructure and equipment. The building also houses one of the Faculty's key partners, adMare BioInnovations (https://www.admarebio.com/). As part of a vibrant UBC academic health sciences community, the successful applicant will have ample opportunities for collaborations with basic and clinical researchers in the Faculty, other research units on campus, including the NanoMedicines Innovation Network (NMIN) (https://www.nanomedicines.ca/), and at the various research centres and teaching hospitals located throughout the province.

Salary is negotiable, commensurate with experience and subject to final budgetary approval. Review of applications will begin on February 1, 2020 and will continue until the position is filled.
