Western University: Corrosion Research on Biomaterials and Nanomaterials

The Department of Chemistry at The University of Western Ontario (Western) invites applications for a new full-time faculty position in corrosion research on biomaterials and nanomaterials research. The appointment will be probationary (tenure-track) at the rank of Assistant Professor. The preferred starting date of this position is July 1, 2020, or as negotiated. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Applicants must have a PhD degree in Corrosion Science, or related disciplines, and a strong record of research productivity in the form of publications in relevant peer-reviewed journals, awards, invited talks and other scholarly achievements. They also must demonstrate that they are well positioned at Western to secure external funding in both the public and private sectors as evidenced by their current success in securing funding and/or their potential for future partnerships detailed in their research plan. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Chemistry and to develop new courses in the core areas of their discipline. The successful candidate must also demonstrate his/her ability to attract and train graduate and/or undergraduate research students.

Research areas of interest must focus on corrosion of materials, biomaterials and nanomaterials, especially those taken up by living organisms. A major portion of the future research activities shall involve the study of corrosion with the electrochemical, spectroscopic and microscopic techniques available at Western. The primary research program of the successful candidate must also be complementary to our Department’s current research strengths in corrosion science, biomaterials and nanomaterials. Potential to collaborate with other researchers in the Department of Chemistry, Faculties of Science and Engineering, and the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry must also be demonstrated.
