Rest in Peace Professor Pupupadi Sundararajan

The Department of Chemistry of Carleton University is sad to share the passing of Dr. Pudupadi (Sundar) Sundararajan (1943 - 2021). Sundar died suddenly on September 14, 2021. 

Sundar completed his D.Sc. at the Ramachandran Institute of the University of Madras. He completed postdoctoral fellowships at the Université de Montréal with Professor Bob Marchessault and Stanford University with Professor Paul Flory. Sundar then spent 25 years as a research scientist and manager at the Xerox Research Centre in Mississauga, Ontario. After retiring from Xerox, he took on an NSERC-Xerox Chair position in the Department of Chemistry at Carleton University and retired as an accomplished academic. He was recognized with the Macromolecular Science and Engineering Award of the Chemical Institute of Canada and the Materials Chemistry Award of the Canadian Materials Society. He was also named as a Fellow of the Chemical Institute of Canada. He mentored many students, authored books and hundreds of scientific papers. Notably, he published the text Physical Aspects of Polymer Self-Assembly in 2016. He served as president of the Canadian Chemical Society and chair of the Chemical Institute of Canada

He is survived by his wife, Kumudam and daughter, Purnima (John). He is now reunited with his son Anand, who passed away in 1996). Sundar was a very loving husband and father, and an extremely proud Thatha to his granddaughters, Leela and Sonia.
