Yaxi Hu hired by Carleton University

Congratulations to Dr. Yaxi Hu, who has been hired as an assistant professor at Carleton University. Yaxi Hu received her BSc in Biological Science from China Agricultural University (2013) and completed her PhD in Food Science (2018) at The University of British Columbia under the supervision of Dr. Xiaonan Lu. Then she completed a two-year postdoctoral training at UBC co-supervised by Dr. Tao Huan and Dr. Xiaonan Lu, and will be completing her 1.5-year postdoctoral training at Health Canada under the supervision of Dr. Terry Koerner. Yaxi’s research will continue to focus on the development of novel analytical methods for food safety, quality and authenticity issues as well as integration of the sensor-based methods with packaging to facilitate smart food traceability. The cutting-edge technologies that she has been and will be using in her research program include microfluidic “lab-on-a-chip” platform, artificial and biological antibody-based assays, vibrational spectroscopy, isothermal DNA amplification, metabolomics, chemometrics, machine learning and internet of things.
