Trent University: environmental analytical chemistry

Trent University, Peterborough campus, invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Chemistry Department at the rank of assistant professor in the field of environmental analytical chemistry starting July 1, 2023, subject to budgetary approval. The Department has vibrant research programs including material science, catalysis, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, chemical biology, and computational chemistry. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make extensive use of the state-of-the-art analytical research facilities at the Trent University Water Quality Centre (WQC) to support their research (https://www.trentu.ca/wqc/).

A Ph.D. degree in chemistry, or a directly related discipline is required. We expect the successful candidate to develop a robust, externally-funded research program in analytical/environmental chemistry, analytical instrumentation applications, or instrumental method development, as evidenced by a strong publication record, and to participate in Trent’s WQC. The potential for high-caliber teaching and mentorship in analytical chemistry or instrumental chemistry at the undergraduate level is an asset. The successful candidate will actively recruit and supervise graduate students in either Trent’s Materials Science or Environmental & Life Sciences graduate programs, and contribute to service at the departmental and university level as required by the departmental practices and the TUFA collective agreement. 

The successful candidate will teach four one-semester courses. At the undergraduate level these include, but are not limited to, courses in analytical chemistry, instrumental chemistry, and introductory chemistry. At the graduate level, teaching includes courses through Trent’s Master in Instrumental Chemical Analysis program.

Michael Meanwell Hired by the University of Alberta

 Congratulations to Dr. Michael Meanwell, who has very recently begun his independent career at the University of Alberta as the Manley and Marian Johnston Professor of Chemistry. In 2014, Dr. Meanwell finished his BSc in chemistry at the University of British Columbia and immediately joined the lab of Professor Tom M. Fyles at the University of Victoria where he studied lipid nanoparticle assembly for drug delivery. A year later, Dr. Meanwell began his PhD studies with Professor Robert Britton at Simon Fraser University where he worked on nucleoside synthesis, C-H fluorination, and organocatalysis. In 2020, Michael joined Phil Baran’s Lab at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California as a Banting Postdoctoral Fellow. During his time there, Michael worked on the development of electrochemical organic reactions and natural product synthesis. Dr. Meanwell’s current research interests rest at the intersection of materials science, organic chemistry, and drug discovery. Check out the Meanwell Research Lab @

McGill University: Polymer Chemistry

Applications are invited for a tenure track Assistant Professor position. We are particularly interested in research programs oriented towards Sustainable Materials, but we will consider candidates with a wide range of interdisciplinary training experience.

Thompson Rivers University is looking for a one-year contract faculty member to teach a section of CHEM 1520 (Principles of Chemistry) as well as a selection of first year chemistry labs and second year organic chemistry labs. The position will have the successful candidate teaching three sections each of organic and first year chemistry labs in the Fall 2022 term and one lecture section of CHEM 1520 plus three sections of organic labs in the Winter 2023 term.

University of Manitoba: Organic chemistry

The Department of Chemistry invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Organic Chemistry (position 32341), commencing on July 1st, 2023, or on a mutually agreed upon date. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The Department seeks an emerging scholar with demonstrated research excellence in any area of organic synthesis and a commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level. The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. and relevant post-doctoral experience in Organic Chemistry or a related field. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an externally funded research program, that is recognized at the national and international level, with a strong focus on training at the undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral level. Moreover, the candidate will contribute to the vibrant nature of the Department of Chemistry through meaningful service supporting our academic and research activities.
