Memorial University of Newfoundland: Theoretical/Computational Chemistry Related to Sustainability

The Department of Chemistry, Memorial University, Newfoundland and Labrador, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1st, 2024 (negotiable), subject to budgetary approval. The successful applicant will develop an externally funded research program in any area of Chemistry.

The position requires a Ph. D. degree (or equivalent) and post-doctoral experience in any area of Chemistry or associated field, a demonstrated track record in research, and an aptitude for teaching. Preference will be given to applicants whose research interests complement current faculty in the department and/or the University and correspond to the broadly defined theme of sustainable chemistry. Applicants who integrate theoretical/computational chemistry, including artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), to address any of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (such as health and well-being, affordable and clean energy, climate change, industry, innovation, and infrastructure) in their research are particularly encouraged to apply. The new appointee will be responsible for developing a vibrant research program and for teaching chemistry courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Salary will be determined following the current collective agreement.

The Chemistry Department has 17 faculty, and 65 graduate students in diverse research groups supported by NSERC and other provincial, federal, international, and industrial funding agencies. The department offers a wide range of chemistry courses and students can pursue a Major, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. studies in the usual divisions of Chemistry as well as in interdisciplinary programs. As a research-intensive comprehensive university, diverse opportunities for collaborations with other researchers exist at Memorial University. Within the Chemistry Department, this includes all traditional sub-disciplines of chemistry as well as the areas of materials, biological, sustainable, and environmental chemistry. Further opportunities exist in other Departments in the Faculty of Science and the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Engineering.
