Founded in 1910 and located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mount Royal University grew into a vibrant college in the 1930s and became a mid-sized university in 2009. Today, Mount Royal offers 14 bachelor degrees and 38 majors, along with a wide range of diploma and certificate options. About the Faculty of Science and Technology
Mount Royal’s Faculty of Science and Technology offers Bachelor’s Degrees in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Data Science, Environmental Science, Geology, and General Science which allow students to prepare for a variety of exciting careers in science and technology by not only teaching them the basics of science but also how to be flexible and innovative problem-solvers.
The Department of Chemistry and Physics offers a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with two concentrations (Analytical Biochemistry and General Chemistry Option), as well as minors in Astronomy, Chemistry and Physics. The Department is committed to providing exceptional teaching and scholarship experiences for undergraduate students in a supportive environment of equity, diversity and inclusion.
About the Role
The Department of Chemistry and Physics invites applications for a permanent-track Laboratory Instructor L2 position which will commence July 1, 2024, subject to final budgetary approval.
The successful candidate will be a passionate teacher who will make substantial contributions to the delivery of Physics laboratories for courses in the Bachelor of Science majors. At a minimum, applicants should have an MSc in Physics or a closely related field. Experience teaching and developing undergraduate laboratories in Physics, strong technical skills, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently will be considered assets. The successful candidate will:
teach Physics laboratories, mainly at the first-year level but also in upper-level courses, including preparation and marking;
contribute to the development of laboratory experiments and materials;
investigate teaching methods and equipment for use in laboratories;
mentor and evaluate other laboratory instructors;
assist with lab coordination, and liaise between laboratory Instructors and course coordinators to help maintain consistent course standards;
and contribute service to the department.
