Position Description
The Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Quantum Materials. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2024, or a mutually agreed upon date.
We are seeking an emerging scholar who will establish and lead an original and innovative research program related to the design, characterization, synthesis, modeling and/or application of tailored quantum materials. The successful candidate will attract competitive external funding to support their research activities, attract excellent trainees, and develop them into independent researchers. The successful candidate will also work within highly collaborative, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research teams involving academic and industry partners.
The successful applicant will support positive student learning outcomes and experiences. They will develop and teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses on topics related to one or more of the engineering disciplines within the Schulich School of Engineering. Furthermore, they will actively contribute to curriculum development, graduate student supervision and mentoring, and will provide service in support of their Department(s), School, University, and Profession.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible for consideration, applicants must have earned a doctoral degree in Engineering, Science, or a closely related discipline relevant to Quantum Materials by the date of their appointment.
The successful candidate must demonstrate:
- a track record of high-quality research and high-quality journal publications,
- the potential to establish a strong, externally funded research program,
- the potential to attract, and provide a high-quality training experience to trainees, including undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral scholars,
- the potential to establish international recognition within 5 years of their appointment,
- an ability to effectively develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses
- strong oral and written English communication skills,

- A Curriculum Vitae with a full list of publications.
- A research proposal describing projects you will undertake in this position, including methodologies you will use, and the impact of the projected outcomes of this work (not to exceed three pages). In the proposal, candidates should discuss the type of equipment or facilities they will require to successfully conduct their described research.
- A statement of teaching philosophy promoting student learning and success (not to exceed two pages). This can include information on teaching experience, training, and mentoring inside and outside the classroom at the undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral levels.
- A statement on how you will contribute to creating and maintaining positive work and learning environments (not to exceed two pages). Discuss your perspectives on equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility (EDIA), and how you plan to promote EDIA both at the University and within your profession.
